Mitch totally doesn’t deserve any social niceties given all the norms he has broken.
I’m reminded that sales people use our social norms against us, when, for example, we are just too polite to get up and walk out of a high pressure sales pitch, or too polite to hang up on a telemarketer (we are getting over that last one). The GOP is doing the same thing. They are playing outside the rules and depending on the Dems to meekly be polite about it as GOP officials are defying House subpoenas without consequences of any kind and Mitch blocks every Dem bill all while claiming the Dems are the “do nothing” party in congress.
several years ago at my previous school, rep. joe barton came to deliver a short talk about elections and politics. i disappeared when it came time to line up for handshakes. i had to remove myself from the scene or i would have gotten pretty shitty about things, and barton wasn’t even one of the worst republicans of his time.
I honestly have a hard time understanding how people are even capable of sharing a table/room/dinner with scum like him.
OTOH, I have a persistent fantasy of being invited to the White House as a champion… something (still working on that part). As a cis-gendered white male, no one would suspect me. Then, when the cameras are rolling… Boom! Something snarky and devastating that would live on the internets forever!
Also, the Republicans threw “civility” and “politeness” and “comity” (not to mention norms, precedent and even the law) out the window a while back. So seriously fuck them - they don’t get to have it both ways, the hypocritical shits. They want to jettison norms of behavior? So be it.
