“Responsible Gun Ownership”

https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/texas-elementary-school-students-escape-injuries-after-boy-102485323

Seguin Independent School District Superintendent Matthew Gutierrez said the student is a boy, but declined to reveal his grade or age. He appealed to parents to make sure their guns are stored safely and securely.
“Oftentimes children see guns as toys and don’t know any better. But unfortunately, we live in a world where tragic events happen on almost a daily basis," Gutierrez said at a news conference.

And, of course, nothing can be done to decrease the number of these totally preventable, stupid, stupid, stupid occurrences. It’s “the price of freedom.”

Yeah - there’s more to this story.

yeah, there’s definitely something dodgy coming from that M-D police department. what, with the police chief trying to top himself on the side of the i75 outside of Tampa (after a big row with his wife at a hotel where they were attending some coppy hoo-ha deal where he pulled his gun).

oh, well. don’t ask me to shed a tear for a cop.
the reason it is a big deal is that Ramirez is the top cop of the county. the Miami-Dade sheriff’s dept was disbanded a long time ago for being irreparably corrupt.

On a number of semi-automatic handguns, if the slide is deliberately pushed back far enough the gun will not fire. It is not really a safety though and is not precise (clearly).

And this is not to explain her dumbass actions. The ultimate safety is supposed to be the person holding the weapon.

Anyone who’s had even the most basic gun safety training knows to eject anything possibly in the chamber.

But - There’s so much that’s wrong here.

I am aware of at least one soldier who shot himself through the hand proving this ‘safety’ feature. Not too bright.

Were they given the “you’re too stupid to handle guns” discharge?

A post-discharge discharge? Yes. A short spell in Quantico, reduction in grade and I believe a general discharge. I’m sure the VA is treating the hand still.

Rule 1) Always assume any gun is loaded.
Rule 2) Never point a gun at anything you are not planning to destroy.

That was my basic gun training. And covers the happenings here to a “T”.

Police initially reported that a 42-year-old woman suffered a gun-shot wound on her leg, and another 26-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet in the abdomen. The older woman went to the hospital and was treated for her injuries, whereas the younger victim refused any sort of medical treatment.

The whole thing went down during the fourth inning of the matchup between the White Sox and the Oakland Athletics, and though the initial story is shocking, what’s even more surprising is that security at the game did not suspend the competition because they felt there was a “lack of a perceived threat.”

Four days later, we are finding out more about the shooting and where shots might have been fired from. Police investigating the incident stated that they had basically “expelled” the idea that the gun was fired from outside the stadium, meaning that it discharged from within Guaranteed Rate Field.

And now, we are getting word of some unbelievable discoveries from ESPN Chicago reporter Peggy Kusinki, who says that one of the women that sustained a gun-shot wound was actually the person that fired the gun, and she snuck it into the stadium (through metal detectors) in her rolls of stomach fat:

“Attention Fans. Due to technical issues, tonight’s postgame concert has been canceled,” the message read. “We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Fans holding on-field passes will receive a refund to the original purchaser’s credit card.”

Vanilla Ice, Rob Base and Tone Loc were slated to perform after the game for those in attendance. Fans with on-field passes will be refunded.

Sneaking a firearm through security in one’s belly rolls? That takes guts.

Ok, so I understand why security found that a gun wasn’t the biggest threat to the audience.

CW: There is no good news to be had here. Just so you know.

The study looked for disparities and trends in the data. As before, firearm deaths were largely in older teens, with 83 percent of deaths in teens ages 15 to 19. Most were among males, who accounted for 85 percent of the deaths. Black children remained disproportionately affected, with the gap widening—50 percent of the deaths were among Black children. The death rate among Black children and teens increased from 16.6 per 100,000 in 2020 to 18.9 per 100,000, the largest increase among the racial categories.

The racial disparity in homicides was stark, with the rate of deaths among Black children being 11 times higher than that of white children. For suicides, white children accounted for 78 percent of the deaths.

“It’s just the price of freedom” my ass.
