Rich casino exec and actress wife charged with chartering plane to Yukon and taking vaccine meant for Indigenous elders

Probably so. But so long as she was cheating elderly indigenous people out of it, I’d think she can claim to have done it to own the libs. Plus racist bonus points! :-/

The Sunday afternoon anti-mask, ‘Covid is fake’ and anti-vaccine march in downtown Vancouver enrages me. At least they’ve given up the ‘Stop the Steal’ and Q-Anon BS. I find it sad that a bunch of people that can’t influence events in the US (because they’re Canadians living in Canada) are so gullible and out of touch with reality that they waste their time getting worked up about something that isn’t their affair.

It’s going to be awkward when they try to get their second vaccine shot.

Moi aussi, but at least it is small.

Yes, you have a point. What I can add is that it is in his own self-interest to be a good example to us compliant sheep. His casinos have been closed since March 15, 2020. (Their site has a now hilarious and dated statement about “…wholeheartedly supporting all actions by our provincial governments and health authorities during this difficult time.”)

Edit - added “compliant” in front of sheep. It’s hard to actively show being compliant with anti-Covid protocols, hence we look like sheep. Particularly to those outspoken critics such as anti-maskers.

There’s been some of these in my part of BC as well. From what I’ve read the guy running them has an… interesting history.

It feels like there less and less compliance around here each week. It’s frustrating (and disappointing) for those of us who are following the rules as closely as possible to see folks often flat out ignoring the guidelines.

Again, let’s stop looking to people like this for leadership. They are not leaders. They are out for themselves alone. That’s not leadership, that’s being an asshole.

Also, an article I read noted that this community was particularly at risk because they’re 5 hours away from the nearest hospital.

Unless amoral a-holes like this start to have to serve actual jail time for BS like this, this is essentially sanctioned behavior. The fine isn’t even a slap on the wrist to these people, it’s just an additional expense between them and what they want (and a minimal expense relatively).

If it’s punishable by a fine, it’s only illegal for poor people. This is a perfect example. The fine was probably a mere fraction of the cost to get up there.

poor isn’t some built-in trait though so we can eliminate both problems. “poor people” and people too rich to care about fines, by taxing people who aren’t doing anything useful with their wealth.

look at these people. they used that wealth for what? green house gas emissions and endangering a community that’s not their own.

why are we letting people get that rich in the first place? tax the f out of them.

Ekaterina Baker’s IMDb entry is rather droll, now that the internet mob has started hoisting their pitchforks. From her user-submitted “Biography” section:

Ekaterina Baker is truly something unique in the world of acting. Whether she’s portraying the role of, “gold digging arm candy to an aging Casino mogul desperately trying to hang onto his youth” or “Privileged white woman with nothing discernibly unique or interesting about her on any level whatsoever”, her commitment to her craft is unmatched by anyone. In trying to summarize what she does in her acting performances all I can say is that she steals every scene she is in like it’s a vaccine meant for a First Nation elder.

He was fired because he’s under investigation for money laundering. I strongly doubt anyone at the casino cares about the vaccine.

Seems like a high bar if we’re expecting our casino executives to have moral qualms.

She has a project in the works with Lori Loughlin and Fatty Arbuckle.

Given the opportunity lead in a crisis, they and their guard labour usually succumb to “elite panic” and act like arseholes (this being a case in point).

I don’t disagree at all. I am a strong supporter of social safety nets and income equality. My point was merely that $1k is basically free to these parasites so what’s the disincentive to negative behaviour when there’s effectively no punishment? I’d love to see fines tied to wealth, so the fine for these idiots would be comparable in impact to what a $1k fine has on a low-income earner.

i think that’s the easier route for stuff like this. but i really think we’d be in a better world where fees hurt everybody similarly because we all have roughly the same amount of cash. ( or at least not people with orders of magnitudes more cash than everyone else. )

it’d also help fix the issue that access to a good lawyer is only a thing for the well heeled.
