Rudy Giuliani and John Bolton are Trump's leading picks for Secretary of State

I have no problem with Newt Gingrich going to live on the moon.

Needs repeating.

Trump is going to suck for Americans. But that is nothing compared to the consequences for the people attacked by Trump’s army and impoverished by Trump’s trade policies.

People will die, lives will be ruined, villages will be burnt, communities will be shattered. US politics have global consequences.

For some reason I’m thinking ‘secret Nazi moonbase’.

They voted for the presidential candidate of the Socialist Party. I am simply reporting the news. It makes no difference if they were voting for socialism or despotism, they voted against the US-friendly candidate with a majority that a US candidate could only dream of.

I lived in NYC when Giuliani was mayor. I don’t recall any bills at the time about trans persons one way or another. That doesn’t mean anything but my unawareness even though I was at the periphery of queer politics through friends. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I correct you.

Citation please?

“Transgender activists also want an amendment to the city human rights law that would add the category of “gender identity and expression.” Hearings were held on Intro 764 in May, but despite the fact that the bill has 27 sponsors, no vote is scheduled. Mayor Giuliani opposes the bill”

I suggest you look at the history of the gay rights bill in NYC and Sylvia Rivera as well - also at trans exclusion from SONDA - the NY statewide bill.

I’m always amazed at people who think trans civil rights work and legislation magically appeared after their political consciousness did. The first trans supportive civil rights bill in the US was a birth certificate bill in 1956. The first full civil rights bill in 1975 (if memory serves).

But fuck - what do I know. I was only lobbying Congress on this issue in the 90’s.

A blind trust you say? Trump’s got it covered, his kids will run the business he’ll have nothing to do with it in office.

It’s not even close to a blind trust if family members are running it? Never mind, that’s just a technicality. They won’t have anything to do with President Trump’s administration. They’ll just help out a little with the appointment committee, and maybe let’s see about getting them top secret security clearances.

A conflict of interest? No, no Trump would ever use information gained in confidence to line their pockets or advantage their business.

Totally legit - they’ll squint while raiding the Treasury.

They could call it “Our thing”. In Italian perhaps. (Cosa nostra)

Thanks. I asked and you pasted. Upon googling I found an undated Gotham Gazette page. You seem to have selectively quoted though. Immediately following was:

saying that his Corporation Counsel has opined that transgendered people are covered under the existing categories of “gender” and “disability,” a view shared by City Council Speaker Peter Vallone

Understandably some might interpret a lack of direct support for opposition but to leave those words out of the paste makes one thing look like another.

I’m unclear if you meant that directed at me. Either way please recall I did not claim to know everything about the subject. The main queer political actors of the time in terms of headlines were ACT UP and Pink Panthers, both of which had very narrow specific agendas separate from the one you mentioned.

I’m not surprised that someone unfamiliar with how trans civil rights legislation has been derailed might make that facile assumption. It’s the same argument that was used in Maryland, Massachusetts and NY to stop trans rights legislation even though court decisions didn’t support it and trans people were specifically excluded from the ADA by Jesse Helms. Those bills passed eventually and Giuliani (and others in their locales) never stepped up to insure that farcical coverage they tactically proposed to derail actual enfranchisement.

Nor did people find the argument either compelling or respectful regarding gay people being covered by disability as they were in the DSM.

None of this addresses G’s targeting of trans women during his broken windows/stop and frisk days or the exclusion of trans people from the NYC gay rights bill or SONDA - or that we fought for inclusion in both.

Maybe you could talk to trans people involved in these issues in NYC at that time if you’re actually interested in the issue. I suggest Melissa Sklarz and Babs Siperstein - Sylvia passed away before seeing those NY statewide rights. So much for being venerated as not just a Stonewall veteran but perhaps starting the riot on her part.

I’m not your enemy, please dont treat me as one. I’ve repeatedly made it clear that this is a subject that I do not know well but my lack of knowledge here isnt a reason to address me with contempt.

If that was not your intent then please excuse me for reading it as such. Again.

Well the differentiators in this case are…ahem…

  1. Qualifications
  2. Temperament
  3. Integrity

You can probably figure who I think has them as positives…and who has them not. Matters not if you agree. The GOP Candy Store is definitely open for business. There are some really swell customers already basking in its bounty.

…The rest of the planet is very unlikely to take Rudy seriously…on anything. Even batshit threats.

Could have been worse. Could have been Ramsay Bolton.
