I wonder how many families Trump has broken up. How many relatives don’t speak to each other anymore because of what Trump brought to the surface in them.

It gets worse if a fascist regime takes hold. The family breakups become family denunciations to the authorities. That’s not an exaggeration. Vote!

A play was written about one prominent instance.

Obligatory (for anyone who hasn’t read it yet):

Denunciation becomes normal behavior. Without law and voting, denouncing others helps people to feel safe. Under strongman rule, you cannot trust your colleagues or your friends or even your family. Political fear not only takes away all public space; it also corrupts all private relationships. And soon it consumes your thoughts. If you cannot say what you think, you lose track of what you believe. You cease to be yourself.

I think of my sister and weep just a little…

Except that Trump didn’t “destroy” Rudy–he was always a rat.

He was a successful rat until he worked for Trump.

He exhibited some level of rational self-interest up until he was denied a third term as mayor of NYC after 9/11. After that happened he completely went off the rails. His relationship with von Clownstick only exacerbated his derangement.

He sure milked his (unearned) 9/11-related goodwill for all that it was worth.

Post 9/11, and pre-Trump hijinks, he defended the Sacklers when Purdue Pharma was on trial vs. the US. While every citizen has a right to an attorney, they don’t have a right to an attorney who uses political capital and calls in favors from his days as a prosecutor, to enable a company to continue to irresponsibly sell opiates. He and Trump were headed to the same level of hell before they linked up.

I lived in NYC during his tenure–including 9/11–and among other things, his handling of race issues was…not good. I had a friend who called him “Adolf Giuliani” for good reason. That said, he probably could have coasted on the whole “America’s Mayor” thing for the rest of his life, in spite of him not being a particularly good person, but he decided to make sure everybody knew he was garbage by hitching his wagon to the orange fascist.

I’ve said before that he probably would have his own statue in Times Square if he’d had the good sense to die circa 2004.

He was taken in by the Donald because he saw the Donald as a way to get what he always wanted anyway. That is how grifters like Trump find marks. But Trump is a vampire that will suck every remaining scrap of value from his victim and then spit out the husk.

But if Giuliani is also Nosferatu…wait, does that mean Trump is a vampire that feeds on vampires, like in Blade II?

Oh man, I’d forgotten the possible taxi strike, when Giuliani basically told the cabbies that if they went on strike, he’d hunt them down, burn their houses down and kill their families. Good times, good times.

Empathetic sociopaths. Dictators.

Right? He was always pretty terrible. His “tough on crime” efforts were brutal and incredibly racist. His reputation as “America’s mayor” was built on him capitalizing on his 9/11 fame when really he was doing his fucking job. Never mind that his refusal to upgrade the emergency comms network before 9/11 likely contributed to unnecessary deaths of emergency workers and civilians (and Giuliani played the “blame the victims” card when confronted about this). The only difference between Giuliani then and now is back then he could form complete sentences.

Maybe she could get him some more Lobster Bisque. He’ll feel better after a fresh shave.

And don’t forget the ferrets. Who doesn’t like ferrets? Giuliani, of course, the asshole, and so that meant nobody could have them…
