We are all basically hairless apes and extremely status conscious. It is a major motivation in much that we do.
They hate intellectual elites because they feel they are being ‘looked down’ upon, condescended to, treated as lesser than. This is helped by the conscious and intentional barrage of misinformation that tells them as much. This feels like an assault on their status, which to a social ape is comparable to a physical attack.
Financial elites basically exploit them but ignore them entirely except as useful dupes. There is no perceived status gradient, they are largely unaware of each other. Not on the radar, despite real and meaningful harm being caused. Far more than any harm a college Classics or English professor might be able to inflict on rural folk in Ohio, for example.
Many of these states are still in a state of “uncertified pending.” Georgia’s secretary of state, for example, has indicated he will finish the recount soon and be recertifying Georgia.
As long as active cases are in play and there are TROs, states are in a limbo. Michigan, for examples’ board of canvassers voted to certify, but the secretary of state held off a bit on accepting that recommendation until cases were dismissed.
It started before that - in 2000, Trump tried to get the nomination from Ross Perot’s Reform Party (Pat Buchanan got it, somebody who’s a hater and thug but not crazy.)
But in 2012, Trump was the opening clown act in a long circus intended to convince the Tea Party that they were going to have to accept a Corporate Wing candidate because none of their clowns could win, and they eventually settled on Mitt Romney as the highest bidder.
Certification is a significant barrier to changing results. Especially, as I linked to originally, legal disputes must be resolved by Dec 8. All that’s left to Trump is wild hypothetical stuff with shitty (and that’s being generous) odds.
We’re getting a bit off subject. Michigan’s board of canvassers agreed to certify in november, yes, but it’s the job of the secretary of state to certify. That was up in the air until recently pending the court cases going through.
My longer point is, the goal was to delay, and family friends know the particular statehouse critters that were called down to DC, and the plan was that the state legislators place trump friendly electors in. Whether it was viable or feasible is up in the air, it was definitely the plan and had it got to the michigan state house , they absolutely would have done it.
Orange and blue are complimentary colours. The orange man never had the blues: that’s how different his blessed, privileged life has been. Or, in the words of Kipling…
Down by the head an’ sinkin’, her fires are drawn and cold,
And the water’s splashin’ hollow on the skin of the empty hold –
Churning an’ choking and chuckling, quiet and scummy and dark –
Full to her lower hatches and risin’ steady. Hark!
That was the after-bulkhead. . . . She’s flooded from stem to stern. . . .
Never seen death yet, Dickie? . . . Well, now is your time to learn!
Indeed (nor would Tucker Carlson know what the blues are).
Not sure if it was clear but was trying to do it to the tune of Fairytale of New York (appropriate both for the time of year and that Trump and Giuliani are New Yorkers).
The timing doesn’t really check out either. It would have been just a couple weeks after Trump was released from Walter Reed, so even Giuliani probably would know better than to victim-blame Covid patients.
Basically the rule I’ve been told is “if you can smell smokers and you have your mask down, you can theoretically get covid from someone who coughed or sneezed an equal distance away.” So I just have mask up when I can see other people’s faces at all.
