Both of those things are problems. Not having pernanent seats on the Security Council is a way to fix that.

It references the Winter War of 1940, when the Finns, and in particular their snipers, fought the Soviet Red Army to a standstill.
It was more about weather and the great Purge.
4,674 casualties (according to the Soviets)
The Battle of Raate Road (Finnish: Raatteen tien taistelu) was a battle fought during the Winter War between the Soviet Union and Finland in January 1940, as a part of the Battle of Suomussalmi.
On December 7, 1939, the Soviet 163rd Rifle Division captured Suomussalmi, but found itself trapped deep inside Finnish territory, and the Soviet 44th Rifle Division was sent to aid the 163rd. Over the next week, Colonel Hjalmar Siilasvuo's outnumbered 9th Div...

That appears to be the case according to this BBC Russia article on intercepted calls between Kadyrov and his lackeys. Apparently the attack was planned only in political circles, while the actual commanders on the ground were informed only a week in advance. Machine translation:
Presumably a week before the Russian invasion, “Martynov” says that the purpose of the operation was finally conveyed to a wide range of commanders.
Many were struck by it, he admits.
"Today [in Smolensk] all groups have gathered, the commanders of all SOBR, OMON, military detachments of special units have gathered. Most of the commanders today heard for the first time all the tasks and goals that we face. Chief, to be honest, many commanders listened to this with bulging eyes “, barely restrained their emotions. There was a lot of talk: many commanders are worried that they will have “refuseniks” who will refuse to write a report,” he said with excitement.

Let’s not go overboard and transfer the hate for a dictator and his junta on a whole people. Yes, there are parts of Russia with a Mediterranean climate where wine is made. And of course they make beer. Both mass produced, like Baltika and Ochakovo and, in recent years, hundreds of microbreweries where hipsters produce hipster beer. Let’s not forget that this is a war between two modern countries (or rather an agressive invasion of one modern country waged by another!) that are not that different from us. Heck, Baltika is owned by Carlsberg.

Half of inner London. But of course the UK is the one country in Europe that hasn’t agreed to just suspend or simplify immigration and asylum rules for Ukrainians.
Hmm, I wonder whether those two facts are connected…
