No, the point of those sorts of statues is that you are supposed to be able to see some of their features from a distance, which is over 300 feet in that example. A realistically proportioned statue would just look like a blob from that distance. Maybe they should have built a giant column to put the Lucy statue on top of.

It must suck to have your sculpture so disliked so much that people feel the need to erect another bronze statue to cancel it out.

Let someone pay me* that particular commission that the originally artist got, and they can dislike my art as much as they want; my feelings wouldn’t be hurt.
