Schiff: I have 'grave concerns' over Nunes' Russia investigation leak to Trump

The Trump clan seems to be highly supportive of deportation, so I only think it would be appropriate…

In the post-Brexit era? Oh yeah, definitely too late.

Elected representatives have a higher standard though. They take an oath to uphold the constitution. Does that put a proactive requirement on them to report a crime, or at least crimes related to government specifically? I do not know. But I’d like to think it does.

A higher ethical standard, perhaps, but not a legal one.

My fear and cynical expectations laid bare. It’s astonishing enough that Nunes would rush out of a hearing to drop confidential information in order to protect his boss trump…and still retain his committee chair much less his seat in Congress. As others have noted, the reactionary theocrats of the GOP have gone Full Fascist with glee.

Are you kidding me? The 'grab em by the pussy guy"? Hell no. The spin machine is already in motion. His supporters will read this a proof that Trump was right about the ‘tapp’ and that Trump had no idea these people were under investigation. Unless you have evidence that he willfully and knowingly committed a crime, he isn’t folding his hand for anything like this.

Sure, you’re happy with this queen. But it’s nothing but random good fortune that has saved us from King Charles

tell me again how you feel about an unelected head of state when it’s this dude

(within constitutionally mandated limits  )

Besides, I have a bit of time for Charles. He has some … odd quirks to his character (hunting, homeopathy). But overall he seems ok.

Also, elections got the US this guy …

… so it’s not like elections are some magic shield against idiocy.

(See? I can cheery pick photos where the target looks stupid too!)

C’mon, it’s way trickier to find a photo where 45 or Chuck doesn’t look stupid.

I admit that I can’t tell where, exactly, this Russia mess is on the spectrum from Benghazi to Watergate, but I’m sure it’s closer to the Watergate end. Possibly much closer.

If Trump campaign staff actually solicited help from Russian hackers to release DNC emails to Wikileaks, we’re talking about Watergate level stuff.

If the GOP changed its platform position on Ukraine because of influence from Trump’s campaign staff, we’re way BEYOND Watergate.

Is this one an “if”? Has anyone suggested another reason why the Trumpies insisted on changing the GOP’s Ukraine plank? (And, if memory serves, this was the only plank they wanted to change.)

Hi,Waetherman,

Well, the reason that I thought this was so interesting, was that my understanding of this “misprision” thing was that someone COULD have a duty to report a crime. Suppose you are sworn to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." and you gain knowledge that someone also sworn to do that thing, is violating the Constitution. I think this is where it kicks in for government workers.

I think I did say that in most cases the Judge wouldn’t bring something frivolous to trial. That would be a waste of everyone’s time and money. It becomes interesting when someone goes out of their way to do some sort of cover-up. And yes, Obstructuon of Justice is the charge Nixon’s co-horts were charged with.

I just kind of like this because it pretty much says that those elected and sworn in do have a very serious duty to us, The People. They don’t actually have to Obstruct Justice. They could just be on record as having -I don’t know-provided a news diversion? -been very clever? -fell down a flight of steps and now no one wants to say anything bad? -posted cute cat pictures?-with the result that it was some sort of cover up. I think the cover up helps both people, which is why the cover- upper is charged.

I just think it’s interesting that anyone who knew anything about the Russian people “helping” one side in the election might be charged with this if they also did not report it and especially if they went out of their way to not help the authorities.

I’m struggling to come up with a better scandal spectrum than between Benghazi and Watergate. Maybe a second axis - you have your Clinton/Nixon axis for severeity of infraction, and then your Obama/Trump axis for how much it sticks with the public. Or possibly Benghazi is the center and Obama’s birth cirtificate is the other extreme.
