…
Sorry, not amazing he only took 2.5 days off. What would be amazing was if he was never sick on a work day in 40 years as a school bus driver.
Reminder: If you are sick, stay home.
If he couldn’t take a day off due to pay concerns, again, that is not amazing, it is America where many are often forced to work sick.
I would have never put him at 85, he looks like he could be in his 50s.
I hope his retirement is long and happy.
That’s really impressive.
I wonder how many times he’s told a student “I drove your parents and your grandparents (and maybe even your great-grandparents!) to school.”
What would really be amazing is if he were a secret billionaire who drove a school bus for decades just because.
While playing the Sousaphone.
There’s something vaguely dystopian about celebrating a guy doing a job from a time when he’s statistically not mature enough to do it all the way until he’s statistically physically and mentally diminished, with only a few days off the whole time. Free country, I guess, but there are inhumane prison sentences that sound less onerous.
Statistically- humans are dead.
We humans are a diverse and heterogenous group. This guy sounds like he enjoyed his job and no one should be judging him about how long he chose to do it.
No kidding! Look at that skin! It appears having a livelihood you really enjoy keeps one young.
Agreed. This is a real feel good story in my book. He was lucky enough to find a job when he was so young, and that he’s enjoyed his entire life. And that the school system has stayed afloat and kept bus drivers on staff the entire 70 years is another feel-good aspect. Around here schools have been outsourcing that duty, with the predictably horrible capitalist-driven results.
My grandma was born in 1901, she drove a school bus in Detroit, Stevie Wonder rode her bus.
That’s my old person bus story.
I think I had the same shitty SatNav.
Honestly, though, good on yer.
So…bus driver’s holi-, er, retirement?
