Scold's bridle, iron muzzle once used to punish women, for sale on eBay

A ball gag is much simpler, but I guess it doesn’t go as well with Gilbert and Sullivan.

I strongly suspect reproduction. Elements, such as the bells, still being intact, appear across different items. Also, the wide set eyes seem more for decorative effect rather than based on anatomical reality.

But the dealer wisely and fully lists their disclaimer to authenticity.

I’d bet real money that Reince Priebus wants to get Hillary fitted for one of those. And he sweats and grins while thinking about it. And i just disgusted myself.

I want to say I saw one of these on QI, and Alan tried it on.

But yeah, ball gag, much easier.

Makes me think of that character from Soul Calibur, Voldo?

You did see Alan try one on.

Definitely 20th century because of the screw. I’d bet it’s a 1950+ repop.

I’ve made similar comments in BB before (and the original poster was not happy about it). There’s this whole subgenre of restrictive/torture devices–iron maidens, chastity belts–which are believed to have been in widespread use despite there being no solid corroborating evidence of their having been used in the time period ascribed to them (see the wiki for iron maiden).
