Let’s review: You had a curiously strong negative reaction, considering we know she can sing and act very well. She bears some resemblance to a young Linda Ronstadt. And when questioned about it, you randomly picked a white actor playing a Black character?

There is a tendency for men to be automatically dismissive of the abilities and accomplishments of women. I have been guilty of this myself when it comes to pop stars, because sometimes I don’t see past the genre, the overproduction (my opinion) and the spectacle and take note of the actual talent. I’ve never really listened to Selena Gomez. It took a very brief youtube search of live performances to find confirmation that she is a very good singer.
All that aside, she is Linda Ronstadt’s choice for the role, they have been working together on this. FFS. Why would someone think they know better than Linda Fucking Ronstadt on the casting for her project about her life? People pick some weird battles.

Seeing as my post was first on this thread, may I say - Clementine you are totally entitled to your opinion, and even though I may differ, it is indeed unfortunate that you were piled on.
My mom got me into Linda Ronstadt AND Selena Gomez. IMO it’s an amazing casting choice and a beautiful example of an accomplished woman kind of “passing the torch” to another.
So of course people on the internet have to shit on it! Gomez seems to be coming with her own hate train (that I don’t understand because I’ve walked away from most internet discourse at this point) but I’m also old enough to remember how hateful boomers and older could be to Linda in their day so it kind of just makes it work even more in my head.

I always thought he had some of McDowell’s rakish energy on screen.
On topic Only Murders isn’t my kind of thing but it is my thing because she is so great. Her vocal frying bone dry persona is the charming centre of the series for me. Perhaps I have a personal attachment to witty, cynical, yet lovable and vulnerable young women from, you know, actual life so I find her character eminently relatable.
I honestly don’t consciously know a single Linda Ronstadt song so I’ll give her a listen before watching this. Any suggestions from the group?
