Fucking hell, the Nashville PD has already released video of them shooting the shooter. I’m not going to link to it.
The police body cam footage should not be hidden away, but the timing and almost celebratory undertones in releasing this barely 24 hours after the horror strikes me as ghoulish and irresponsible.

Last night someone close to me said, “If the shooter being trans had anything to do with this it tells us trans people deserve support and care, not being treated as a threat.”
We both agreed that even if the shooter was trans that doesn’t reflect on anyone else in any way but the main point stands: trans people deserve support and care.

That “if” in my statement is doing some pretty heavy lifting.
I agree 100% that conversion therapy equates to torture and don’t equate gender dysmorphia with racism. But if someone on the right wants to use one shooting by one trans person as a justification for conversion therapy playing devil’s advocate with applying the same solution to far more common triggers for mass shootings, like racism and misogyny seems rational, yes?
This twitter meme being passed around is stunningly apropo, we just need to add Trans/gay and ban hormone therapy/require conversion therapy.

Here’s a rule of thumb for using the word “but”. Look at what you wrote before the word. If that’s something you would not ever want to see contradicted, just stop there.

[Police do something that they’re proud of]: “While these events are still in progress, will you just look at our heroic officers! Medals for everyone!”

the reaction around my part of texas to the video has been “show this video to the 400 cops who failed to act at uvalde”. there’s no telling how many lives the 15 or so nashville cops saved by immediately confronting the shooter here.

How do you think all the people being DIRECTLY targeted feel right now? I’m worry for people I know and love, too… but I also listen to them when they point out that I’ve made a mistake… It’s not about YOU, it’s about the people in the cross-hairs, and I really wish we could focus on that right now.

I persist, I think I’m relatively okay, given the circumstances. However, and this is a gigantic fucking however; the current fascist push to eliminate trans people has me more than a little on edge!!!
