Yes, they taste sweet but the body doesn’t do much with them when consumed. Some sweeteners have had mixed results in experiments, but I bet if we designed a really well-controlled experiment ourselves, we’d find that the big artificial sweeteners out there don’t elicit an insulin response.
Because of that, we should think beyond artificial sweeteners. We should be thinking whole foods that have portions real and portions fake. My bet is that if water intake with a meal can affect satiety (it does) then there are other ways to induce “bulk” but retain flavor and real texture. Also to keep the upper digestive area busy just like with real food, so that you’re not hungry again in 15 minutes.
