Red sky at night, sailor’s delight. I feel like there should be an alternative version for farmers for whom these sunsets are another reminder of the drought.

That would only be true in places where clouds in the east will pass over, bringing rain, while clouds in the west will drift away - so wherever the prevailing winds are east-to-west.
