Benny Johnson Falsely Claims That Gun-Toting Couple Were Democrats

Multiple plagiarism scandals defined Johnson’s disgraced career in journalism, but Johnson has nevertheless maintained a high level of influence in conservative activism circles.

Honestly? I don’t care how the usually vote. I care that they threatened people for no reason. I suspect that probably at least some of the Karens caught on record do vote Democratic and probably even consider themselves to be “progressive”.

I don’t understand how it being a private road means that random homeowners get to threaten trespassers with guns? They are not the owners of the neighborhood, so they don’t have the right to serve as a private security just because they own property there.

Because we’ve fetishized private property to the point that it trumps human life (meaning America),especially when it comes to people of color… also, as noted above, it’s not as clear cut about the side walk.

Darlene’s pretty on edge, but she most certainly can handle a gun, too. I mean, did you see what she did to Frank Jrs dick?. It honestly nearly redeemed her… almost. #teamruth.

I double checked and the property plats mark it as a private street, but that actually doesn’t mean much. I would bet good money that every property on that street has an easement allowing people to access other properties in the development. Even absent that, minor trespass isn’t grounds for threats of deadly force.

The telling bit of documentation, to me, was the records that show that the city maintains the street & sidewalk. If my tax money goes to maintain it, it’s my fucking street (and my fellow citizens), regardless if some twits in a McMansion think it’s private.

The thread that orenwolf linked to above did have some conflicting documentation, but the composite picture indicates that it is a gray area, public-private zone where it’s a “private street” in that pubic vehicles aren’t allowed to pass through, but pedestrians and bikes are allowed. There’s an unlocked pedestrian gate (it was controversial in the thread whether that gate even has a locking mechanism). And as recently as the last fiscal year there was city money going towards road and/or sidewalk maintenance. The city entry for the historic district lists the public status as “Restricted” but no “No” which implies that, as above, the street is not open to public vehicles but there is other public access.

Finally, I’m not sure I’d automatically take the city lawyer’s word at face value. He probably knows these two, if they are prominent attorneys, and if Bonnie is on the state bar ethical committee, he may even be worried about blowback if he doesn’t spin it in their favor.

I wonder if the attention called to the area will result in the side walks being open to the public now.

Or will they double down and raise their HOA fees and maintain them themselves.

A lot of the commenters in the twitter thread say it’s open to the public already, and that they walk through it all the time. The gate is never locked, apparently, and they don’t remember having problems with getting shoo’ed away.
