Stalker allegedly hid in woman's attic, photographed her as she slept

Uh, no. Ask any woman.

That’s what I was thinking. Definitely not in that house, at least not without some serious security upgrades. And even then, every little creak or rustle would terrify me.

Right?!? There’s a reason people on OnlyFans don’t offer a package that includes sneaking into their attics and photographing them while they sleep. Because it’s horrifying and scary and creepy as hell.

Tightly. With pliers.

the REAL problem here is that he was only charged with 4 counts of BURGALARY…
must be because the woman in question was “a sex worker” and everyone knows those arent real people unless you tart them up vis-a-vis Pretty Woman

when the clear and obvious facts are that he crossed multiple states to stalk someone. thats like… stalking with intent. you dont burgle the same place four times unless you are STALKING.

what the fuck is wrong with PA. Godforsaken place is Florida north these days.

Spoken like someone who doesn’t live with the daily threat of a psychopath in your attic taking pictures of you while you sleep. Women think about this possibility constantly.

Yes, because stalking and violence against women and sex workers in general never happens in every other state in the union… just PA and FL. Also, the KKK is only confined to the rural parts of southern states… /s

Holy cow is this not the same thing. The guy was caught redhanded sneaking into her house and taking pictures of her.

Maybe go back and read what people wrote instead of just making assumptions.

It seems reasonable to assume that THIS individual poses a DIRECT THREAT to the victim and perhaps should not have gotten bail AT ALL. THESE DECISIONS GET WOMEN KILLED.

Especially since no one in this thread mentioned or even implied anything like that.

Also, as a Black person in America, I really fucking hate it when certain folks try to use our ongoing struggle as some kind of ‘shield’ against not caring about other forms of oppression.

A bit more to the story. There was a child involved.

Guerrero claimed the woman had told him she “wanted a man to be obsessed with her and stalk her,” police said.

I have a personal friend who used to engage in sex work, and she states that this kind of attitude prevails with a lot of men who patronize sex workers. This incident is only the visible tip of a huge iceberg.

I’m sure it has nothing to do with misogyny and how we stigmatize sex workers, tho… /s

You’re confusing a need to revise and eliminate bail for non violent offenders and those who may not present an ongoing risk to the public with whether there is a legitimate societal interest in protecting victims and the general public from further harm.

As someone who was the victim of a hate motivated assault. I can assure there is an interest.

Additionally- you’re talking to someone who was arrested for having a roach in the car they were a passenger in under the old Rockefeller drug laws which was a seven year felony if it went to trial & was roughed up by the cops and had a gun twisted in their ear.

Stop pontificating- you ain’t the Pope.

Right. Making a false equivalence between smoking cannabis and… Crossing state lines to break into a woman’s home and terrorize her. Not the goddamned same thing at all.

Burglary in these circumstances would be a Class A felony in New Hampshire as opposed to a Class A misdemeanour for stalking.

Whether stalking should merely be a misdeamour is of course a relevant question but given the laws as they stand, they’ve charged him with the more serious offence.

They can and do jack up bail significantly when the suspect has means.

I don’t think financially ruining somebody before they’ve even faced trial is a great look.

Someone getting raped or murdered is a worse look.

He has a car. That he used to go on a road trip of stalking. Most cars cost more than $2500. Maybe he shouldn’t have means.

I would prefer he have a prison cell to reflect on his actions. Maybe being broke and not able to get around much is a better look for him than paying a fine and having the chance to attack someone.

That’s…not how bail bonds work.

They must be thinking of civil forfeiture?
Clearly have never had to post bail…

I just realized that I never got my bail money back from that weed arrest. :woman_shrugging:

As others have noted, the concept is that this person who obviously represents a significant threat to the woman he stalked does not walk free and represent a continued threat to her safety. I’d beggar that nobody here really cares whether that’s accomplished by denying bail, or setting it so high that it cannot be met. The argument that everyone is reacting poorly to is the idea that “$2500 is more than adequate IMHO”.

And comparing someone being unjustly persecuted by a cop saying that they “smelled weed” to a dangerous stalker who broke into someone’s house repeatedly and planned to plant a tracking device… If only there was a word for this…

Oh yeah:
