Star Trek is returning to network television

From a science fiction dictionary I had back in the '80s:

Kirk (verb) - To break the Prime Directive. Usage: It was a nice little planet 'til they kirked it.

Lyrics from the titles-music to the never-released George Lucas comedy Jabba the Hutt

(> Ooh, why go, ooh)

You aint got the class, boy, you aint in his league.
So dont try to tell me that youve got the things that I need, huh!
This guys ORIGINAL, hes got the JUICE.
WellHEY look out, world, THE HUTT IS ON THE LOOSE, RIGHT
[Slobbers x 9]

(Ooh) Uh huh (ooh)

(Ooh) Get that planet on the phone (ooh) aint no time to waste.
(Ooh) Tellem he aint coming home
(Ooh) Done joined the Human Race!

Call him Jabba the Hutt (ooh) aint no way to conceal it.
With a slimy touch I love him apart.
Call him Jabba the Hutt (ooh) if it aint funk, you dont feel it.
And he shot a blaster straight to my heart.

(Ooh) To this hutt we say a toast.
(Ooh) So get the bumpin offa his case.
(Ooh) Though hes got two footed foes
(Ooh) Has saved the Human Race!

Here before your very eyes, hes gonna be, gonna be here with you.
I used to think it was all in my mind.
Hes gonna see some people tonight I GIVE YOU:

Jabba the Hutt (ooh)
No way to contain him! In a second he would love you apart.
Call him Jabba the Hutt (ooh)
No way to explain him! The fellow with the drool has stole my heart.
Well ALL RIGHT!

(Ooh) (Ooh) (Ooh) (Ooh)

Hmm, Hickory Dickory HUTT (ooh) He aint about to be choked.
Too groovy for gravy, too precious for pt.
Hes a funky slimy Cheshire-cat toady crime lord
Belch right in their face (ooh) little hutts in the Human Race.
Come into my tub of love.

Here before your very eyes, hes gonna be, gonna be here with you!
I used to think it was all in my mind, ooh
Hes gonna see some people tonight I give you:
AAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

Jabba the Hutt (ooh) No way to conceal it!
With a slimy touch I love him apart!
Call him Jabba the Hutt (ooh) He gets bumped, he dont feel it
And he shot a blaster straight to my heart.
Jabba the Hutt (ooh) Gets a bump he dont feel it
In a second he would love you apart.
Jabba, ooh, THE HUTT (ooh) Aint no way to conceal it!
And he shot a blaster straight to my heart! AAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!

Whatā€™s funny is, I never realized that the version of the song used as the Enterprise theme song wasnā€™t the Rod Stewart version. I guess I only watched about 4 episodes though, so itā€™s not that big a surprise that I didnā€™t investigate it too much.

I just hope the new series has enough diversity.

It was Russell Watson. I love him way before I love Star Trek. Kinda what got me into it.

OMG, and his deep smarm! I love Garak. But, thatā€™s the thing, they could have just left it as him being one-dimensional, having just some comic relief - ha, ha, look itā€™s a tailor and heā€™s a Cardassian, and of course heā€™s a spy. But another thing I loved about DS9 is the fact itā€™s a very ensemble cast, and that all the characters got both lighter bits and stronger, more character building episodes. All the stuff with Garak and Dukatā€™s daughter are well done, as is all the stuff with Garakā€™s mentor in the Obsidian order.

Dear me, sorry, I just nerded out here, didnā€™t I?

Itā€™s Garak, everyone should geek out about him.

I was wondering the other day if Garak was meant to be a nod to Le Carre, with the tailor/spy references.

Huh! I wonder now! Could be!

Please tell me you got that from somewhere and didnā€™t write it yourself.

Please.

I thought it sucked before being translated from the original Tatooinian:

Alongside the ā€œHoliday Specialā€, a many-generation bootleg of Lucasā€™s Jabba the Hutt is one of my treasured possessions; not for itā€™s nigh-unrecognizable adaption of Steve Gerberā€™s source material (the original Marvel comic was a thing of wonder, and a satirical joy to behold), but because I delight in the perverse knowledge that such black-holes of irrational thought can be committed to celluloid by such a large number of people, and nearly consigned to oblivion just as easily. Although apparently clean copies of The Day the Clown Cried have recently appeared, so anything is possible.

But it had a beagle! You donā€™t need plot with a beagle around! Just look at that face!
