I was excited about the good news but then I realized it meant I might live longer and [gestures around him]
Importantly:
It’s worth noting that this study doesn’t prove that coffee directly causes these health benefits. Rather, it shows a strong association between moderate coffee consumption and lower risk of these diseases. Other factors, like overall diet and lifestyle, also play crucial roles in health outcomes.
All these types of studies are surveys. They look for statistically significant correlations between things, which never indicates any kind of causation. Which is why next month, there will be some study published that reaches the opposite conclusion. I really wish these types of studies weren’t reported on to the general public. These are useful for researchers who want to find something to go study further to see if there is some causation and if it can be useful for medications or treatments or lifestyle changes, but this information is pretty useless to the general public.
Good or bad, drink your coffee if you enjoy it.
And don’t take life too seriously, none of us are making it out alive.
While it is debatable whether drinking coffee is good for me, it is absolutely undeniable that it is good for those around me. I gave up coffee for Lent a few decades ago. The nurses made me promise to never, ever do that to them again.
(To amplify your later point through, I did hear something once that stuck with me: correlation does not imply causation…but it’s a great place to start looking!)
And, for that article image, allow me to give you a full coffeehouse clap.
Disagree. I found it very useful in relieving my anxiety about the last coffee study.
This week it is good for you. Next week? Pure poison.
A glass of red wine was good for you, then it became bad then good.
Studies brought to you by the coffee/wine producers of America.
I don’t drink coffee for my own health.
I drink coffee for the health and safety of those around me.
heck, i’m drinking coffee right now!

and we thank you for your service.
Drinking plenty of coffee good, drinking coffee in moderation probably terrible for you, worse than smoking (since it’s the amount of coffee I drink).
So am I! Well, okay, I put my mug back down to type this sentence, but otherwise … /sip/ … still drinking it!
because i am far too lazy to read the actual study, yet have questions…
are we only considering caffeine from black coffee (or tea)? what are the implications of two to three cups of coffee, loaded with sugar and fatty creamers (or worse, those palm-oil heavy, flavored “instant creamers”)? does 2 or 3 Frappucinos™ count as healthful addition to my cardio care?
i will stick to my one-a-day Cuban cafecito and takes mah chances.
