Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade

How about establishing a well regulated militia?

Want a gun you have to join with mandatory and periodic safety training and annual dues. Dues can go into a fund for gun victims.

I just finished the article. No wonder conservatives disparage higher ed! So many of those people had their viewpoints changed when they went off to college.
A good read overall, too.
It had me wondering about the lives of older women who are still so pro-forced-birth and how they’ve escaped discovering the nuance and humility that the writers in that article described.

Check out the thread about the woman in Iowa who is fanatically insistent that school shootings are all fake. She seems incapable of the empathy that allows for considering the lives of others as valid. For many women I suspect that clinging tenaciously to that belief is a bulwark against examining their own lives and the ways they could have been different (and better).

Naturally the CPC, publicly neutral, but you’d have to be kind of gullible to believe that, is ecstatic.

Well that is a very clear shot of the vanity plate, so they should be able to find and charge the guy.

Airlines should be taking frequent flyer miles donations to help people go to states where they can get an abortion if they need to.

I appreciate this. But my worry with this kind of stuff is that it will cause people to say “see, it’s fine if done states ban it, because it’s easy to go somewhere else,” when it really isn’t.

It’s ridiculous that SCOTUS is actually enabling corporations to blur the lines between employees’ business and personal lives. Are we going to have company towns and wages paid in company scrip sometime soon?

They are resorting to terrorism against protesters. I wish this was unusual.

So many states passed “It’s ok to run down protesters” laws, it will be very dangerous. Keep your heads on a swivel, y’all.

One small data point in this new world in which we find ourselves. Folks on our community chat group who I would otherwise call “center-right” and who vote R, are fucking pissed. (Yeah yeah leopards ate my face, I get it.)

They’re attacking the further-right folks with a vigor I have never seen (“fuck off! I don’t want to hear your shit anymore”) and swearing that they’re not voting for an anti-choice R ever again.

We’ll see if that holds. Taking names for when door-knocking time comes along.

I can’t say this will hold for all of them, but yes, this is exactly the trajectory I have seen for a number of years now: formerly card-carrying members of the Republican party individually reaching a point where they realize they cannot in good conscience vote for any Republicans anymore, after a period of time in which they start to abstain from voting for certain Republicans but otherwise continue to consider themselves Republicans in good standing.

Notice the results of the 2020 election, in which Trump lost in areas where other Republican officials continued to win. That’s from the Republican rank and file voters manually casting each vote instead of voting the party platform as a whole.
