The first time I heard that term it was spoken by a Muslim-American satirist in response to Christo-fascism and it really stuck with me. However, I get what you’re saying and will take it to heart.
I’m not holding my breath. Senate Democrats are so afraid of what will happen if they lose the majority in November not realizing that Republicans are playing the long game here and will just remove the filibuster the next time the political winds shift their direction. They need to use the power they have while they still have it. If they pass laws that help people only for them to get struck down by SCOTUS, at least they can say they tried to do something.
A reminder. In case anyone still has the notion Republicans give a shit about the health of babies.
A lot of them found time to bloviate about how the shortage was Biden’s fault, but given the opportunity to do something about it, this.
No more “both sides-ing” this or anything else.
What I mean is, if democrats don’t end the filibuster, republicans will if they gain a slim senate majority. They’ll do it under pressure of a national abortion ban.
I’m not going to make the argument that Dems shouldn’t stand on the core principles of representative democracy, but christ, if there’s a time, a place, and a principle not to stand on, it’s here and now and the goddamn filibuster.
Time for NY to write a new gun control law - one that defines “gun” to strictly mean a firearm available at the time the 2A was written. Since the conservative Justices have such a hardon for what the framers had in mind and no possible later developments.
Maybe Marge should stop inciting her followers. Her Twitter is filled with posts calling protestors terrorists, insurrectionists, and telling her supporters it’s antifa.
For now, that’s a good enough description of states that don’t have a dealth-cult party governor and/or legislative majority. What I fear is that over the next five years we’ll very quickly move to referring to “free cities” (Atlanta and Austin as much as L.A. and NYC), “free regions” (e.g. San Diego and Cook and Manhatten counties and, but not Shasta and Iroquois and Staten Island counties), and in a worst case scenario “free neighbourhoods” – all supporting or defying the next level up of central government (in an extra-worst case, the federal government is a Putin-style one-party one controlled by the death cult).
Ameristan won’t be neatly contained by state borders for very long. And, as it’s demonstrated, it will spread wherever it’s allowed to get a foothold.
