Ahhhhrrgh, too late now!
… as in “Children, Kitchen, Church”? The Christo-part is pretty much baked into the original template.
The reason you pay well under up-front and maintenance cost for a phone(†) is to enable surveillance; to date, that has never ended well. Everyone pretends that the (maybe, on a good day) 4% improvement in ad effectiveness is worth it and ad money flows, but it’s all post-9/11 panic and state subsidized and … in the context of women seeking health care the entire infrastructure has been built to be abused. “Big Tech” is now facing the scenario where they are in bed with the Bad Guys.
I believe the R party whip would like a word with you…
† No really, try using a non-Android/Apple/Windows device some time and discover the time and effort involved. It’s a commitment.
Send it again tomorrow,
And the day after that,….
And send to others.
I’m sure some people may make that argument - but it is bullshit and no one will find it an acceptable compromise. It is just the realistic work around that can be done right now.
Pence already has started pushing for a nationwide ban. Waiting for centrist dems to start chiming in with “Oh, don’t worry. That could never happen.”
There don’t seem to be any “enumerated rights” against them, and they’re certainly “rooted deeply in our history and traditions”
OMG do we all have to learn to talk in Alitospeak now
Hard agree. If the Dems don’t do it, the GOP will once they get their slimy hands on the levers of power again – and with barely-restrained glee.
It’s not like the filibuster as it exists in today’s Senate is any sort of democratic or even parliamentary norm. Cloture rules were only codified in 1917, and the “procedural” filibuster only started being used routinely as a tactical tool to sink legislation in the 70s.
oh my fucking god that’s literally what she said
If you’re posting stuff, like I am, about helping people from the red zone get to the free states to obtain healthcare, we need to have a serious talk about Prigg v PA and the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850.
In short, these dealt with the legal obligation of a state to return a runaway slave to their former captor. This policy, obviously, was being pushed onto the federal government to enforce by the slave states, and was vehemently opposed by the Northern free states, who increasingly defied the federal government and refused to comply. This was the primary triggering movement of the Confederate succession and consequently our first civil war.
Yes, it was indeed about states’ rights, and like every other fucking thing Republicans say, they fought for the exact opposite thing they keep claiming they did. But this isn’t about irony.
This is about the fact that there are women RIGHT NOW who are serving prison sentences for having abortions or even miscarriages, like Brittany Poolaw. When you offer to help someone from the slave states obtain abortion services from the free states, you are opening yourself up to murder charges, and I am absolutely not joking about that.
And I am absolutely certain that when this happens, states like California and New York and Massachusetts will refuse to extradite their citizens for trial.
And I have every expectation that this will turn out exactly like the last time the slave states tried to force the free ones into extraditing people for crimes which they considered inalienable human rights.
This is not a plea to stop- I for one, stand by my offer transport to those in need- It is a plea to consider very carefully how you plan to keep your information secure to avoid prosecution.
But more importantly, it is to make sure exactly what it is that we’re talking about here. I encourage everyone to do what they can- But for the gods’ sake, be aware of what it is you’re doing, what it is you’re risking, and just how bad things are likely to get over the next decade.
This song goes out to the justices Samuel Alito,Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, and Brett Kavanaugh! We hate you!
GOPhesians 4:23
“And the women shall be cattle and the cattle shall be protected. No woman shall give birth without consent of her husband who lie with her on the appointed days every month. Each birth shall be celebrated. When a woman gives birth, and if during such a time, the sacred child sacrifices itself before the eyes of god, then god shall strike the women down. The husband will then choose two new wives as replacements.”
GOPhesians 4:31
“And god then spoke unto the menfolk of the village, Thou shall seek out all cattle that have suffered still births either from accident or circumstance and thou shall cull them from the herd, so that the herd shall grow stronger.”
Making comparisons to slavery and slave states is both inaccurate and unhelpful. The death of Roe is a horrific thing, and at the same time it’s not slavery. Comparisons to slavery both do an injustice to the horrors of slavery, and distract from the problem at hand. Please stop.
And while the FSA of 1850 was a point of contention, it wasn’t a proximate cause. Much more important was how slavery would be handled in the territories, that relationship to the declining populations of the slave states, and what all that meant for representation in the House. And Lincoln’s promise to shut off slave expansion. This is extensively documented.
I appreciate that you and others are making an effort. I’m in a deep red state, and I’ve already talked about the immediate and very existential legal jeopardy my wife and my family face because of anti-trans laws. So, I’m all-in for it. But we need to keep ourselves reality-based when talking about solutions.
Not FSA, exactly, and IANAL, but i do wonder about exposure to things like the TX law making anyone assisting someone in obtaining an abortion open to civil lawsuits. Anybody have any solid info on how that might play out? Even if unsuccessful, the cost of defending yourself could be significant.
In Michigan, everyone I talk to about the petition to get a constitutional amendment on our November ballot is telling me they already signed and there were lines to sign.
They also said there were people harassing the volunteers and the people signing but it wasn’t discouraging anyone.
It looks promising for our state but we’ll have to wait until November to see how it goes. If it makes it to the ballot a simple majority is all that’s needed which shouldn’t be a problem. For now the goal is 425,059 verified signatures.
If you don’t live in Michigan but want to help the cause, donate here.
