I took the reference to the FSA of 1850 as a comparison to the Texas law, making activities that were legally done in another state punishable in that one. Clearly a violation of the 10A and supremacy clause, but the risk is very much there that this particular SCOTUS would just ignore the Constitution in favor of their own bias, as they’ve done so many times.
But the FSA (1850) didn’t do that, and what Prigg (1842) stated was that federal law was supreme. Prigg told Pennsylvania that its state law prohibiting Blacks from being taken out of the state to enslave didn’t overrule the original FSA clause in the Constitution. There’s nothing in there about suing or anything like that. In since Prigg was 8 years before the 1850 FSA, it’s confusing the issue.
Again, references to slavery are an unhelpful distraction.
I think you’re being too literal. Essentially, we’re talking about one state or group of states enforcing their (legal) will on others. It’s the opposite of States Rights, which is why that call rings so hollow.
Won’t be satire by tomorrow.
Why don’t you propose that at the next CPAC meeting, Peggy, and see what response you get.
Well, most dystopian fiction is just taking historical events but having them happen to white people…
Gee, it’s almost like our society has a racist undertone to it…
How about NOT contribute to that maybe?
What happens when it fucks over everybody, regardless of race, in real time? Does that still count as dystopian?
My sentiments exactly.
But, in the end, I’ve still got family in the US who are going to need my vote.
Does he have another citizenship already or is he another American who thinks they can just immigrate wherever they want and will be received gratefully?
Evidently, he is an honorary citizen of Viggiano, Italy. I do not believe that this confers actual citizenship of Italy, though. I wouldn’t hazard a guess as to whether or not he thinks it does.
Oh, [Republicans] still practice abortion. They just wait until the kids are in high school, then let them kill eachother with guns.
A friend of mine moved from the US to Ireland, obtained citizenship and then renounced his US one. That might be Armstrong’s plan as well - though it will take years if he doesn’t have a second citizenship ready to go.
