“It’s 3:30 am, and something is twitching at the bottom of the Bed. I must investigate, with a leap and many claws.”
I’m guessing the confusion is in my phrasing of “restricting gun ownership to minorities.” I wasn’t saying that only minorities should own guns. I’m saying if there were a disproportionate effect of a gun ownership restriction that decreased gun ownership among minorities more than among white people, it could have the effect of decreasing deaths among minorities because those who don’t own guns are less likely to die from gun violence.
I’ve edited it for clarity.
I think about it this way, a large dog is still basically a dog. Even when playful it isn’t trying to do harm.
A housecat the size of a German Shepherd would probably act like the cats we know that are that size: pumas, cheetahs and jaguars. They would probably kill or maim us just in the process of playing.
It’d be worth it.
Two words: Savannah Cat. Dog-like loyalty, about the size of a female Husky, but still very much a domestic cat.
Hmmm a cat I want. Other than a tiger. But I’m sure a tiger would eat me eventually.
Any housecat will nom on your face if you die and they run out of food before you’re discovered.
Some day I will have a pack of Savannah’s, a pack of Irish wolf hounds, and a pack of capybaras.
My monthly food bill is gonna be worse than a lazy fraternity.
Do wolfhounds have the same oily coat deerhounds have? If so, I’ll die of sneezes 10’ from your managerie entrance.
Yeah, similar wiry hair, but for my allergies the lack of (significant) dander is a plus.
Have you actually looked at the Kellerman study? It seems like you are repeating what some people assume it concludes, which it does not.
And do we prosecute the numbnuts who put the gun on the street through poor security, greed, or a desire to stuff the market so full of guns that this is inevitable? No?
Jackass. Suck a muzzle for us, willya. Do it for America.
Do you have any peer reviewed journal articles that refute such a conclusion from Kellerman?
I’m only finding search results about debunking Kellerman’s finding from blatantly pro-gun websites like The Truth About Guns and Firearms & Liberty.
I have a link saved somewhere. I will look for it and post it. I agree that agenda-driven analysis is worse than useless.
Some one else that needs a hug. hug
To answer your questions, yes we should prosecute people selling guns illegally. About 40% of criminals get their guns from friends or family members. I have even said that the number of people charged with something after failing a background check seems surprisingly low. [quote=“IronEdithKidd, post:127, topic:74521, full:true”]

Eh - if I’m dead, and no one else realizes it and doesn’t feed them, then I’d be fine with feeding them.
Though I might taste a little… funny.
Must read! True story!
The photos alone are amazing. The cheetah had full access to all parts of the family, house and grounds. The baby was still crawling and in diapers while the cheetah grew to full size.
Do you taste funny because you are a joke?
I’ll show myself out…!
…also, a classic.
…also, more on-topic…
I can vouch that it works. The “Teenage Rampage” by Antonio Mendoza was pretty good.
Yup.
It is still possible to get illegal handguns in Australia. But doing so requires time, serious criminal contacts and quite a lot of money. Not things that are available to your typical sleepy teenager.
And, if the cops catch you in possession of that illegal gun, you’re going to be doing some genuine time. It just ain’t worth the hassle for your standard junkie housebreaker or car thief to bother with.
There are still legal ways to get handguns in Australia too, but you have to either be some kind of licensed security guard or a permit-holding member of a target shooting club.
Tom Paxton has been singing anti-gun protest songs for over 50 years. Here’s one from 1965. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOhznnWDM_4
