Tennessee school safety officer arrests parent for calmly objecting to pick-up policy

Yes we also see him refuse to sign the paper work. And bitch about the wording.

There are ways to get results with school administrators. Arguing with a cop in the lobby and going to sheriff is about the least effective thing you can do.

My mother was a high level parental advocate and fought schools constantly in NYC in the 80’s, I’m no stranger to what’;s happening here and how to get results and what this guys real agenda is.

His agenda is simple. He doesn’t want his kids to ride the bus, and he doesn’t want them to walk alone, and he doesn’t want to wait til 2:35 when the kids are released “post bus” to their parents, because that means he won’t have a good parking spot or would have to wait in line with other parents. He thinks he found a loophole, and tried to exploit it, but the school knows full well if he gets away with it, that everyone will try it, and it’ll be madness. Why else would he record the whole darn thing?

Honestly, I live in this state. I know this kind of people, I see them every single day pulling this shit.

This whole thing could have all been avoided had he only brought the cop some Ritz crackers.

Excuse me, I can’t come in to work today because my head asploded.

Signed,

Mom whose kids walked to school, first with me and then on their own, from age 3.

Is it even remotely possible that the parents picking up in cars might be part of the problem?

Hint: kids walking home instead of sitting in a car is a good thing.

Which leads me to the suspicion that the school has probably cut back on physical education classes as being an unnecessary expense. A lack of awareness about health and fitness is on display here.

The victim in the video WALKED into the school. It would be dangerous for him to stand in the car line waiting his “turn”.

I say that has more to do with school boards than with lawyers or nannys.

yes, and the police have to deal with non-violent law abiding dicks all day long, professionally, or find jobs where they don’t need to be professional or manage their tempers.

Blame here is not equal, the power imbalance was abused by the officer.

Yeah, nobody likes to be told their backwater smells like a backwater. But it does.

as far as i can tell, correct, they are not signing a legal document which would create a situation where they have implicitly agreed to an abridgement of their children’s rights, which they the parents then reestablish with their signature.

I would write a letter reminding the school that my children, despite the schools inconvenient new policy, have rights which are not to be considered abridged in this way by policy decisions made by people not named Senator or Congressman. Pass a law if you want to abridge peoples rights.

No, thanks. I refuse all friend requests from Google.

Be the change you wish to see.

No matter where you go, there you are.

Many of the school pickup / dropoff rules in this state are based off laws made by state reps/senators.

I like Buckaroo Banzai as much as the next guy, but I don’t get what you mean there.

What I meant was that if you would like follow up, do so, and share it, here or elsewhere. If you want someone to follow up on the story, you could realistically be that someone!

Sure, and if a law abridges constitutional rights, it is a bad law. Do we agree on that?

Maybe its a law so bad that people who have to deal with it become incensed, but that’s no excuse for an arrest. Maybe we can agree on that too?

I don’t know the full details of this story, despite the recording, and neither do you. So no, I can’t agree that it’s a bad law yet.

I didnt ask if that law was a bad law. I asked if a law violates the constitution, then is it a bad law?

Not this law specifically, though I understand why you wish I asked you the question you answered,

Also, please do not presume what I know. Speak for yourself, sir.

I hate the whole thing with a white hot passion, believe me, but I’m in the minority because OMGWONTSOMEONETHINKOFTHE CHILDRENS. And since both my children are adopted, the other parents just assume I don’t love my kids as much when I advocate for their autonomy and freedom. Sigh.

Your post seems to imply that the “equal” half of “separate but equal” is the only problematic part… and “natural segregation” is a liiiiittle dicey of a phrase to just coin and drop…
