When NASCAR goes electric it’s all over.
Here in the land of endless freeways, we had planned on purchasing a Tesla once the pandemic ended but just couldn’t bring ourselves to do it. All of the reasons you stated above such as exploiting workers, dangerous software (e.g. phantom braking), shitty customer service, and questionable build quality – but with the now seamingly endless Elon antics, we let out deposit go and purchased elsewhere (Volvo if that matters).
No company is perfect, and no vehicle is perfect, but I’ll go out of my way to ensure not a single dollar I make goes to Nestle and Tesla is quickly entering into that same catagory.
Yeah, people were pointing out, as he began his very public rightwards turn, that because electric cars are politicized, the market is very much left-leaning, so he was alienating his market in order to appeal to people… who would never buy his cars. And yeah, it’s finally happened…
“self-described liberals now view Tesla more negatively than conservatives, though conservatives also have a negative view of the brand on average.”
I was reading a truck driver absolutely dragging the cab design alone, which was clearly made without any input from actual drivers. It’s a total mess - tons of practical problems, including safety issues, that makes it super-unappealing to the people who would have to use it. Another case of Musk & company saying, “We don’t have anything to learn from those people, we can figure it out for ourselves!” and failing.
Especially when they don’t like it either.
I do have an equal rights sticker from the HRC on the back window, so that’s something.
We have a Model 3. We put down our deposit in early 2016 and took delivery in late 2018. It was the most efficient EV we could get that met our needs and budget. Overall the car has been doing fine (other than mice nesting in it)
It is frustrating to see how Musk has tarnished the brand so badly. Now every time I see it I just think “dickhead”
For the CEO of a major, publicly traded company to go around repeatedly antagonizing anyone is just plain bad business. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tesla shareholders sue him for tanking the company’s value like that. Hell, I am surprised that they haven’t done so already.
For the left, Tesla is synonymous with Elon Musk and his far-right, anti-worker, union busting, anti-consumer, and anti-environment antics. For the right, Tesla is synonymous with wealthy tech bro elites smugly driving fancy cars and taking advantage of tax breaks while doing it. (I mean, both sets of beliefs are technically true but the underlying motivations behind them are completely different.)
Teslas have always been overpriced, shoddily built, and sold on empty promises of vaporware features that are never delivered. Elon Musk has always been a sociopathic blowhard with more money than sense. For all the people over the years who would come to BB and take a bullet defending Musk’s honor, I’m glad that the many problematic aspects about both him as a person and how he does business have finally had a bright enough light shined on them to where it’s really hard to ignore or hand wave away.
This may seem like a joke, but Tesla can remotely brick your car if they want to.
I am pretty sure that he has cancelled someone’s pre-order because of criticism, but I cannot be bothered to check
That was a way faster crowdsource than I expected! Thank you!
Half the carbon footprint of a combustion engine car comes from its manufacture before it’s been driven even a single klick
Or a kit to make it look like an EV1, which would really puzzle people.
I wonder how it would do with lithium?
An EV1!?
Have you ever examined closely the fit between the body panels on a Tesla? It’s absolutely craptacular. Gaps of 1/8" or more are pretty much standard. Overpriced crap.
Yes but how do you really feel?
Nope… because every other car maker uses the actual standards.
The stockholders are in a bad position there because so much of Tesla’s (still inflated) brand value is tied to the image of “Elon Musk, Genius.” Which means if they publicly sue him for acting like a total assclown they could well be hurting the value of their company even more.
Too Brand To Fail. The disease that captures quite a bit about the particular flavor of our current gilded age…
