Texas seems really quite determined to turn itself into a shithole wasteland to which no one wants to go…

As with anything involving the current Texas AG, I must always ask (rhetorically):
How the fuck is Ken Paxton not in jail awaiting his prosecution for fraud?

The Regressive States of America…
Seriously what’s going on down there? Please stop before it leaks, even more, up here.

I’m conflicted between not wanting to spend money there and wanting to go and be part of a massive Pride event that gives Paxton the finger.

Of course it shouldn’t be hard to find supportive businesses even in Texas. No place is a monolith.

Having not yet googled this, I tried the autocomplete game of… uh… yeah…

As far as I’m concerned, mission accomplished.

We’re just one more place where resources, not people, are seen as the source of wealth. The population of Texas is just inconvenient detail for our state’s political class and its patrons.

I know I won’t ever be going there.

That said, I’ll gladly help build the ‘underground railroad’ to help get endangered people who want to flee out of there…

I know; I have friends and family that live there, and you all have my sincere sympathies.

Yeah, we have a huge Pride event every year even up here in Amarillo. (although the pandemic slowed things down a couple of recent years).

parents—not school districts—are in charge

Unless you’re trying to get gender-affirming treatment for your child.

Unfortunately, a lot of shitty Texans a) are pro-life b) are anti-LGBTQ+ c) don’t want more communist, socialist, nazi libruls to keep flowing into the state.
So shithole to me and you is theocratic paradise to the Y’allqueda GQP.

Which means they are getting facist actual nazis flowing into the state instead.

Again, I’m willing to lend a hand to anyone who wants to get out; but until y’all get some actual sane, non-evil people in charge again, y’all are proper fucked.

(Sorry for telling you what you likely already know, far too well…)

That’s been widely known since the power grid went down.

violates state laws against teaching “human sexuality” without parents’ permission

If “pride week” constitutes teaching “human sexuality,” that means acknowledging that non-heterosexual people even exist is against state law, in which case so is acknowledging the existence of heterosexual people. No mention of romantic relationships (e.g. in fiction), spouses (as a concept) or children in any context would be allowed, by this logic. Which would be a pretty… interesting way to have to teach, uh, biology, literature, history, (I’m assuming health/sex ed classes don’t even exist) or even just exist as a teacher (with a personal life) in the classroom.

Good luck with that, Texas. I think you just outlawed being human in schools.

And, y’know, conservative. It’s the absolutely bullet-proof combo in a state like Texas. If he were a left-leaning politician, I doubt he’d still be untouched, somehow - that would have eroded his privilege just enough

He doesn’t even bother to block tweets that make him look bad…which are pretty much all the responses. :man_shrugging:
