Abbott & Co (including Paxton) are not up for election until 2026. Cruz is, but it’s likely that he will stay in office. Allred is mounting a mighty campaign, though, so I may be wrong.
They tried to impeach Paxton, but he was acquitted. When that happened, his cronies (Abbott, Patrick, etc) went after the people that tried to impeach him.
It’s just a matter of time until the Troika puts checkpoints on all roads at the borders in order to fill up those private prisons with dangerous criminals attempting to subvert Texas law…
Paxton the Criminal, ‘T.D.’ Patrick, & Czar Abbott are a threefer; your corruption dollars go farther in Texas.
And the SCOTUS isn’t helping matters: … the Supreme Court refused to block two actions by the Texas government that should, by any measure, be serious violations of basic constitutional protections.
Nope. in a state where elections at the statewide level are often won by a single point or two, muting the votes of 12% of the state’s voters can give you a real edge.
Well, these assholes aren’t ‘in government’, but they doown Paxton & Patrick, while this asshole has his claws in Abbott.
They are well on their way to destroying public schools in Texas… looks like Abbott will finally get his wet dream of school vouchers next session.
In the meantime: The state had a historic surplus of approximately $33 billion in the last legislative session. … The Texas Legislature did nothing to support our public schools…
But, they found time to try and force their own theology into public schools.
Yeah, well, consider this headline: The Worst Possible Trump Attorney General Is the One He’d Be Likeliest to Pick
We shall see. I can’t wait to help vote that smarmy bastard out of office.
He was impeached, but not convicted.
With Patrick overseeing the proceedings, there wasn’t a snowball’s chance Paxton was going to be convicted in the Senate.
grrrr ! ! the sheepdog in me acknowledges the sheepdog in you ! must protect !
dood lays one indictment , and , i would allege to phantasize about contacting rabies on purpose before biting him !
surely there would be some less physical reaction , if i were a better sheepdog !
grrrrrr !
Well…I don’t know if that’s the reason why. I’m pretty sure Paxton and Patrick hate each other. I don’t think anyone likes Paxton, actually. He has a lot in common with Ted Cruz in that regard.
Keep in mind they both have the same billionaire owners whose christofascist agendas they are implementing. Patrick is a christofascist himself, while Paxton is driven by greed & lust for power.
Along with Abbott, they complement each other’s fuckery.
Politics & Bedfellows… Patrick has longtime political ties to Paxton, including a six-figure debt owed by Paxton to Patrick for campaign funding. And Patrick recently received contributions and loans of $3 million from DTL, …
DTL is 'Defend Texas Liberty, a PAC funded by the previously mentioned Texas Oligarchs. That’s yet another rat-hole to explore…
ibid Paxton might never win a Senate popularity contest, thanks to the broken promises and sharp elbows that aided his rise to power. But his appearance on a campaign stage remains invaluable for candidates courting the far-right voters who decide low-turnout Republican primary elections.
I remember reading somewhere that Paxton can be quite likeable in person, unlike Cruz, whom people hate on first sight, just to save time…
I don’t expect it to get past a SCOUTS ruling, but this court is pretty terrible.
The “originalists” on the court have a lot of precedent on their side, for example the Fugitive Slave Laws and the Dred Scott v. Sanford case.
Those were of course overturned by the 13th Amendment, but they can still be used as precedent outside the context of slavery: If a state has chosen to take away people’s basic human rights, then people can’t regain those rights just by fleeing to another state.
