I always found “The New Zoo Revue” more than a little disturbing.
That feeling when you realize The Banana Splits shares more storytelling elements with the Adam West version of Batman than it does not.
Austin Powers was a take off off the Dean Martin ‘Matt Helm’ films and they are not very far apart. I think the latter was going for goofy but ended up with stuipid, whach was a damn shame as I like the book series which was gritty and realistic in a way that Bond never was.
I have no idea what The Banana Splits are, if they made it to Australia I missed it, but I would watch this.
The nerdy glasses look of Austin Powers came right out of Michael Caine’s “Harry Palmer” films, based on the novels of Len Deighton:
The Ipcress Files, A Funeral in Berlin and The Billion Dollar Brain.
The films go from dead serious and drift to “Never give Ken Russell a spy movie”
I think it’s a damn shame this won’t be in theaters! LOL
I’d managed to forget about “The New Zoo Revue”, although I know I watched it more than I ever watched “The Banana Splits”. Thanks… I guess?
