It is beyond insane that of all the things Republicans tried to go after Biden for they settled on possible mishandling of classified documents. I almost hope they do punish Biden for some minor infraction because then Trump would have even less cover for the truckloads of stolen documents he hid at Mar-a-Lago.

We do, IMO, need both reform of the system and more funding. Done right, it will benefit immigrants with faster processing and less time in limbo waiting years for a determination.
My understanding of the Biden plan that was rejected is that it provided both. That’s not GOP-lite, it’s meaningful progress.

From a legal and strategic standpoint it’s probably better for Trump that Biden wasn’t charged with anything.
Biden kept a small number of documents by mistake and was only found out because he disclosed them as soon as his people found them. If that was something that warranted serious legal consequences then it would be even harder to justify letting Trump escape accountability for his much, much worse actions regarding classified documents.

Sure, but my point is “if you think what Biden did with classified documents was bad, then what Trump did with classified documents is about a million times worse.” So it was always dumb for Republicans to hope Biden’s butt would get nailed to the wall over this issue in particular.

MSNBC, Fox, and CNN to a lesser degree, are focusing on “elderly man with poor memory”.
Fox, of course, is focusing on that statement and Hunter had access, some republican sena is concerned about the fate of humanity in Biden’s hands.
But, they are not concerned about the other guy’s handling of documents.
Seems like we have a problem with securing documents in DC. At least Biden fully cooperated as opposed to not.

For most non-presidents, this is an ongoing issue. VPs and many cabinet members generate documents that start out unclassified but become classified or secret later. They have a nearly impossible task of accounting for these documents and are responsible for figuring it out themselves and self-reporting. (This is what Biden did, from his time as VP.) Presidents do, too, but they are assigned resources from the National Archives to wrangle those documents when they leave office.
T****’s case is entirely different from that. T**** didn’t retain documents he generated that were later classified. He took documents that were already classified, retained them after he was no longer president and no longer had the security clearance to possess them, lied to the National Archives about them, lied to the FBI about them, then lied in court about them. It truly is unprecedented outside of actual espionage cases.
