It actually can have an impact. Companies like Disney are pretty powerful, but they are also still interested in accessing new markets and so it can still be a means of pressuring them to do the right thing.
As much as I dislike corporate pandering to the LGBTQ+ community, it at least serves as a canary regarding public support of LGBTQ+ people.
Also there are people who work at those corporations that want to do the right thing and external pressure helps them make stronger internal arguments to the assholes in charge.
When people call you out for being a fascist asshole, I guess the best course of action is to double down. Iâm sure the fascists voting on the bill all believe the same thing as her.

The bill is similar to Russiaâs âgay propagandaâ law that allows librarians, teachers, bookstore owners, and students to be prosecuted for disseminating anything that portrays LGBTQ people in a positive light or even broaches the subject.
Rep. Bruce Skaug (R) may have summed up the disgusting motivation behind the bill. It isnât about safety â itâs about persecuting LGBTQ citizens.
âI would rather my 6-year-old grandson start smoking cigarettes tomorrow than get a view of this stuff one time at the public library or anywhere else,â Skaug said.
