Perhaps, but was it offered and blown off (because hurting people is the point)?
Austin police officers facing indictments over their use of force during racial justice protests two years ago are suing the city, saying they didnât receive training on how to use the âless than lethalâ rounds employed during the demonstrations and that city officials knew the rounds were defective.
Having spent many a weekend in downtown Austin operating a pedicab, or later, being a homeless person at ARC or the Salvation Army for a few months, I cannot.
The âcrowd controlâ cops that cover the 6th street area on weekend nights, and the regulars who cover the area the rest of the time are total dicks and have no sense of responsibility to citizenâs rights or safety. Theyâre all about hurting people if they can, especially the homeless.
If you donât really know how to use a thing, then why risk it?
ETA: Granted, many folks who descend on 6th street to party on the weekends arenât gems themselves, so itâs just a protracted war down there.
I guess following orders. But that is beside the point, because suing the protesters shows their true colors. ACAB.
Am I misunderstanding? Youâre on board with the indictments, not the fact that these cops are suing the city? I can be on board with that.
No, I am on board with the indicted cops suing the city for not providing training in the weapons that they were expected to use. I am horrified by the officers suing the protesters they shot for, I donât know, not getting out of the way? I am also highly on board with indicting these folks for acting like goons. So, yeah, lots going on here.
The less-lethal rounds they misused have instructions in great big type on them warning users to NEVER AIM DIRECTLY AT PEOPLE.
If they claim that they misused the weapons due to lack of training, I would hate to see them fill a vehicle at a gas station.
There are also procedures those officers should have been familiar with that explicitly state the âless lethalâ weapons are only to be used by officers who received training. Itâs standard in the general operating procedures of every big city. I kind of want to read the pleadings but Iâve got enough rage issues ATM.
If they chose to use them when they knew they werenât competent- thatâs negligence.
I agree with that part because I believe that they are lying (as usual), and canât wait to see the city prove it in court. They make a big deal out of training budgets, and I wouldnât be surprised to find them just as inflated as every other line item associated with police.
Oh dear. Someoneâs watched Reefer Madness with Jeff Sessions, again.
She took the brown acid.
Ah, so thatâs why shit is coming out of her mouth.
âPot Psychosis?â I think she just invented a new syndrome to feed the right wing talking points. Holy shitâŚ
A Frederick County Board of Education candidate said she checked out all of the books from an LGBT pride month display at the Brunswick Public Library to make the library a âsafe place for children.â
Heather Fletcher checked out the roughly 20 books on Tuesday so that other patrons would not be able to read them, she told the News-Post on Thursday. She said she also took a cup of pins with pronouns â often used as a sign of gender identity â printed on them.
Fletcher said she was âdisturbedâ by the display and worried it would prompt âage-inappropriateâ questions from young children. She said she didnât want her three children to see the word âqueerâ on a book and that she removed the items after trying, unsuccessfully, to convince the staff to move the books out of the main lobby area.
âThis has nothing to do with the gay community,â Fletcher said. âIt has to do with the preservation of innocence.â
TRIGGER WARNING: Casual promotion of genocide
The perils of YouTube auto play (queued to the crazy):
I sometimes listen to talk YouTube at work on auto play and this just jumped out at me. Itâs just casually out there, the proposed incarceration/elimination of all trans people by whatever means possible. Deeply creepy. And they consider themselves to be feminists.
Iâm fine with them advocating for special, separate accommodations for transphobes. Seems a bit costly, though. And how will they prove that theyâre true transphobes? And not just transitioning to transphobia for the special benefits?
Someone shared that in the Transphobia thread a day or so ago, and Iâm still too angry and dismayed to watch it.
Same.
Crap, my bad for missing that it was the same thing as was posted in the transphobia thread (I didnât listen to the Twitter clip). It was just so shocking to hear⌠I was totally unprepared.
