Yeah, it’s pretty much MCU style humor, just a different setting. Still looks like a fun movie, though.

Since the general public is more receptive to Dungeons & Dragons, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood decided to make a movie

Well, only a matter of time before Hollywood decide to make another movie. The last three were decidedly not great (so much so I didn’t even know they’d made two sequels, but they went either to television or straight to video apparently).

Just based on the trailers, it looks like the movie strikes a good balance between humor and sincerity. D&D is always going to be hard to bring to the screen. Hardcore players will be unhappy that the movie doesn’t take the source material seriously, those unfamiliar will be puzzled about a more surreal and just plain silly Lord of the Rings or Conan wannabe. (Seriously? Gelatinous cubes? Mimics? Very elaborate dungeons in the middle of nowhere that serve no apparent purpose except to loot and further the plot? Bard adventurers?)

I think embracing that absurdity while at the same time delivering a sincere adventure is a good way to draw in the hardcore and the casual viewers allowing it to see commercial success, and hopefully sequels.
