I’d be surprised if Nottingham has more than a handful of ANPR cameras because it’s outside of London. Contrary to popular belief, most places in the UK are not particularly surveilled.
(According to this map, there’s five (5) ANPR cameras in all of Nottingham, so avoiding them can’t be all that hard.)
It’s a huge problem in Germany too, esp. in the regions bordering the Netherlands: North-Rhine Westphalia and Lower-Saxony. Apparently it’s a MO adopted by mostly eastern-european (Bulgaria et al) groups operating out of the Netherlands. They use commercially available gas that’s introduced into the ATMs with small hoses. The damage can be enormous because the ATMs are usually installed inside buildings. A few of those robberies endangered the structural integrity of the buildings the ATMs were installed in.
