Once you know what it sounds like, you hear it in a lot of fantasy/sci fi materials. Movies, TV, Games. I have a Metal album with it in a song. More and more common because it sounds weird to the layman, and fantastically weird to the musician.
This kitty is “swearing.” It means roughly “back the fuck away.” Cats swear at strange cats, new objects that scare them, or people who have a scent on them that the cat dislikes.
It can have a variety of interpretations like “I’m a fearsome and terrible predator and am going to run away in a minute”, “Don’t you dare take my food. I am eating all this food. Stay back”, “Get the hell out of my territory; I would give you such a thrashing if this window wasn’t in the way,” “My tummy hurts. Are you doing this? Is it witchcraft?” or “Do not even think about touching my flank, you ovary-stealing, cone-inflicting, vile pervert.”
It’s basically the alarm on Chevette’s bike in the Bridge trilogy by William Gibson.
Pro Tip: If your kitten is particularly bitey, push her away, ideally with a firm but gentle “paw” on top of her head, and give her the kittyswear (make sure you get the pitch right). This means “Momma is tired of your bitey crap”. You’ll get a break for several hours, and after doing this several times over a period of a couple of weeks, kitten will find a toy to bite instead.
(You’ll know if you’re doing it right because your kitten will look shocked).
That’s what I thought. He’s trying to sound like a human. Kind of like when a human goes “meow.”
Birds. I think you guys are confusing cats with birds.
