‘During the Paris Tournament in 1867, [Wilhelm Steinitz] blew up over a trivial remark made by his British opponent, Joseph Blackburne. In a rage, Steinitz spat in his face. Blackburne, who was no white knight himself, promptly picked up the short, squat megalomaniac and threw him right out the window.’
The CDC said that people living along the Gulf Coast may want to take extra precautions when they are in contact with soil or muddy water, such as wearing waterproof boots and covering open wounds.
Colonial morphology of Gram-negative Burkholderia pseudomallei bacteria grown 72 hours on a medium of chocolate agar in 2010.
Wow, I had no idea that petri dishes came in chocolate agar flavor. They do provide a growing medium color that makes colonies easy to spot. OTOH, one could slide a piece of dark paper underneath the dish and then take the photo. So that makes me wonder if this bacterium has some specific affinity with chocolate… in which case:
At a cost of $11,000 to $20,900 per prototype, these bins are priced like fine art, so it seems reasonable to assess them from an aesthetic and artistic perspective. Demonstrating his utter and complete ignorance of history, as those generals he so admires attempted to assassinate Hitler on a few occasions. We might be better off if they were more like the Nazi generals, actually.
We’re at a point in U.S. history (which is frankly not even that long) where your statement is so darkly relevant that even my own twisted sense of humor finds it challenging to find the funny here.
There’s some nuance to that shift though. The prevailing attitude I hear from “liberals” is, if these institutions that have done so much harm in the name of safety, stability, and the rule of law don’t act against an obvious threat to our democracy, and do so decisively, then why do we even have them?
