This looks like an issue that might, sadly, solve itself over time. #maskthefuckup #getthejab #dontbeadick

I looked it up. There are only about 220,000 people in the county too.

Paywall-free (and Newsmax/OANN-free) article…

But the city’s declaration does not shield it from following federal and state laws, said Lisa Pruitt, a rural law expert at the University of California, Davis, who said it was not clear what the designation meant.

“A municipality cannot unilaterally declare itself not subject to the laws of the state of California,” Pruitt said. “Whatever they mean by constitutional republic you can’t say hocus pocus and make it happen.”

Well then, 300 down and at the current rate 1,200 or more to go.

Indeed. But we should help them in their isolation. Usually I’m against this kind of thing but here I think it is justified - build a wall!

Sounds like it’s time to send in the troops to suppress the insurrection.

It was good enough for George Washington.

it is home to about 20,000 people.

The county has had over 25,000 Covid cases and over 300 deaths.

?

The first number is about the city of Oroville, that passed the resolution. The second is for Butte county, which includes the city of Oroville.
My guess is they only track cases at the county level, so that’s the number they had. :woman_shrugging:t2:

On the rest of the story, yeesh. The people quoted at the meeting are so melodramatic!

I other related news, the city off Oroville has also voted to be renamed Gooberville!

It’s like a leper colony, but for idiots.

I know I was in the parking lot getting high through much of high school but aren’t we already a constitutional republic?

Are they just declaring they are their own country? Again, I was high, but doesn’t that require some kind of vote or at least a war?

Fine. Not one cent of federal money for them, then.

And unlike a leper colony, the idiots there take intelligent people hostage.

It must be so nice to live in a city where there are no municipal problems that need solving, no community areas that could be improved, so councilors feel free to spend so much time on this kind of performative idiocy.

Time to send in the bears.

I am reminded of a quote on the internet that compares libertarians to house cats… both utterly convinced of their complete independence while being completely dependent on a system the don’t appreciate or understand.

Oh well… FAAFO, Oroville…

The main difference being that (IME, anyway) most healthy house cats could survive outside on their own, but just choose to live a life of coddled luxury on their own terms

Oroville is deep in so-called “State of Jefferson” territory. Which is to say, a state of denial.

That wall should have gates staffed by Customs agents, to process the residents of that town as they enter and leave the United States each day.

This assumes that the United States doesn’t ban travel from this foreign republic to the US (and vice versa) because of COVID like they did for travel to and from South Africa.

“Purpose of your trip to the United States this afternoon?”
“Grocery shopping!”
