An article that actually cites trans authorities and points to their work? Also an examination of the politics of both the author and her world; particularly how she depicts slavery.
AKA a list of TERFs in the Labour party
This article is actually a bit mixed, thereās a bit of relatively good news at the end.
Let me guess: if itās Springer, they charged her $1000 per article to change her name.
If itās Elsevier, they turned it into an auction where she has to bid against a collective of anti-trans academics to get her name changed on the articles.
My dissertation adviser transitioned, but had the good luck of having a gender neutral first nameā¦
It is probably a silly/obvious question for those who work in academics, but how do the journals deal with women who change their names when they get married?
Isnāt it supposed to be even easier for trans people who maintain their last name, since it is used more often than the given names?
Not anywhere near universal experience, but in my circle an awful lot of women keep their maiden names professionally and married names socially. (Dr. Smith, Mrs. Jones being the same person.)
Rosie Duffield almost makes me wish that she had lost Canterbury to the Conservatives in the last election. We expect the Tories to be shit, when it is Labour it is more of a betrayal.
They are misgendering her intentionallyā¦ Assholes.
" Ellis was named a senior legal adviser to Trump and his reelection campaign late last year. She comes with a long history of anti-LGBTQ+ activism and rhetoric, including defense of conversion therapy, along with anti-Muslim comments and other extreme right-wing stances, as documented by Media Matters for America."
So pretty standard issue republican, right?
My hope is that this particular issue will fade away as more trans and non-binary youths are able to get theIr needs met during adolescence and begin their adult life as their actual gender.
Until then, though, itās unfortunately going to be an issue. Itās simply difficult to go from āold lifeā to ānew lifeā without some bleed through.
Personally, Iād love to see her works REpublished under her real name, with only a brief footnote that they had been previously released under a pseudonym, and for the original to be de-indexed, so only the newer version would appear or be referenced unless someone chose to really dig for it.
And hopefully, gods willing, weāll make it easier to transition early and this issue wonāt exist for future generations.
No. It has to be made to change. Hoping for things to change does not work, we have to make it change.
