Today in transphobia (Part 1)

“Meow-mix fan?” Crazy cat lady can go choke…

We don’t know that she has any cats. Maybe she just likes the flavor…

Where do people get the idea that rights are a zero sum game?

And the Biden Bros are getting toxic too

We want reassurance that Biden/Harris will fight for us, not more abuse!

They say that they will do this:

hold their feet to the fire.

Harris was definitely on the wrong side of health care provision to incarcerated trans people and sex workers rights. But - so was nearly every politician in recent history in the US. Her policy has changed on this. Which is what we want to achieve, of course. She was supportive of other LGBT issues.

Sanders and Warren voted for the fists/sesta bill as well.

Biden has come a long way on LGBT rights and spearheaded these rights in the Obama administration. Speaking out on trans rights and equal marriage before the rest of the administration. I believe that he knows some trans people personally- which is a huge plus. Not sure that Harris has any personal relationships with trans people- her Chief of Staff is a lesbian- which obviously isn’t dispositive for supporting and valuing trans people.

The Policy page is below. I wouldn’t call any candidate’s policies an assurance. Perhaps an indication of intent; but that’s about all. OTOH - it’s a pretty substantial policy page. I remember when there were none for LGBT and especially trans people. Then some vague statements.

I think the Biden Bros are the problem here, they are the ones going after vulnerable people with real concerns, rather than going after the TERFs you mentioned who are willing to throw everyone under the bus unless the Democrats support their bigotry.

Yes. But the TERF portion of the vote is even smaller than the trans portion. Though the transphobe portion is larger.

Regardless- the polling has shown a majority support transgender equality under the law - and has shown so for over two decades. Even in Pennsyltuckey. Which had polls showing higher support for trans rights than gay rights about 15 years ago.

I can’t believe Biden will support the Bro’s on this issue. He’s placed to much of his case of being forward on these issues and being the guy who has a heart and cares about others. A statement from him again on his support would definitely be welcome.

This might be triggering for some, as it includes some descriptions of surgeries that did not go well for the patients and of neglectful doctors:

Everyone deserves the care they need to live a good, fulfilling life. Health care is a human right.

WTF is the “LGB Alliance?”

Sounds like a hate-group making a piss poor attempt to disguise itself as “queer allies.”

I’ve met Dr Rumer and knew some folks that were her patients. I can’t speak to results - but she is credentialed and associated with a teaching hospital.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare outcome of any surgery. And quite awful.

A week after grs is really not sufficient to travel back home and to not have direct in person follow up with your surgeon. And yes I know many, many people do just that as it’s costly enough as it is. People underestimate the amount of care you need afterwards with a strict dilation schedule and return to work earlier than advisable- but again - often don’t have any other option.

There needs to be more providers so people don’t have to travel as far and more training programs for trans health care. And of course- everyone needs generous sick time. This is a one time event - benefits need to reflect needs. Just as parental leave needed to be fought for. Though that may not be a one time benefit need.

Bingo! Got it in one.

I agree. I imagine that the people who are credentialed to do this sort of work are often overwhelmed, too?

It can a take a long time to get on the schedule for surgery after having gone through all the approval hoops.

Nailed it. Pretty much the opposite of their name.

To paraphrase Twitter;

We are here for 1, 2 and 3.
4 though, fuck 4…
Actually, fuck 1, 2 and 3 as well, but 4, fucking 4 is disgusting.
Look at 4, ruining it for everyone.

The missing “T” is the giveaway here. “TERF’s ahead.”

Well that sucks; I hate being right about such things.

And the Q too.
