They sure seem to be…

Oh, it’s coming, just wait.

Ah - another cunning plan from him.

He’s some sort of sexual predator himself, isn’t he?

Wait… that’s Tony Robbins, never mind; I guess this dude is just a plain old garden variety bigot.

The letter in The Times has quite a few names helpfully attached - Establishment bastards, the lot of them. Hopefully it’s the last gasp of the Oxford/Cambridge entertainment set the UK has had for the last 40 years.

Nearly every British hero is royal or upper class, or some plucky faithful oik working to maintain the position of their betters. Every soldier faithful to their officer and tradition, every sacrifice heroic especially the needless ones.

Every single war story, every Downton Abbey, all fit the template of “Maintain the system.”

Christopher Robin lives in a lovely country house, the middle-class children in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe get to escape the war as a family, even Mary Poppins is posh and looks after a banker’s children…

You could say the British never got over the loss of the Empire but to be honest they never got over the Arthurian legend of Might is Right and the mytholigising of the Divine Right of Kings.

“Know your place” is the British way.

Tl;dr - Lux nailed it.

It’s interesting to note which things America decided to adopt (while pretending to reject them). :weary:

Aint it, though?

We swear we hate monarchy and royalty… then we turn around and treat our elected officials just like royalty.

The wealthy, too. It’s all part of promoting that fake American Dream that anyone can start with nothing, work hard, and end up as King or Queen of their own personal castle.

You are winning as long as there is somebody beneath you.

I think that’s horrid, but it appears to be the norm.

Celebs as well.

Social hierarchy is nothing more than the caste system coated in sugar.

I don’t know who most of those people are. May they reach that level of obscurity with everyone!
