I believe the impetus for this is to strengthen the legitimacy of Trump’s election and any future presidential elections where the winner wins the electoral college but not the popular vote (most likely to be Republicans). Calling us a “Democracy” would legitimize the popular vote, but “Constitutional government” emphasizes the electoral college system outlined in the Constitution.

I was going to say, they aren’t wrong that we have less and less of a democracy. This is one more step toward that end.
How strong are your governor’s convictions? I remember when Trump winning in the first place was unthinkable. Now, the unthinkable is becoming commonplace, and a return to sanity is the new “unthinkable.”

When trump was expected to have a majority of electoral votes, I sent emails to some of the electoral college that were considered crucial. one in Texas responded with a form letter saying the constitution was never meant to define a democracy. it’s actually s federalist something. That was a troll letter either designed to incite or hacked in by a 10 yr old. it also magically disappeared from my inbox so there’s no record. I know this sounds like hearsay, but I’m positive others were sent. someone may have taken a screenshot. cut & paste won’t work on those emails.

When Ghandi said “be the change that you wish to see in the world” he didn’t mean make the world a worse place for everyone except those exactly like oneself.
There was a time when American conservatives would at least pay lip service to their pride in living under a democratic system as contrasted with the Commies and Nazis and absolute monarchies; for at least half of them that time has passed.

I thought it was going to be a story where someone goes “hurr dee hurr the US is a Republic not a Democracy.” Instead it seems to be dumber than that. This one is so far reaching that it seems like it is unlikely to advance very far unless they introduce it in Kansas or Texas.
