I’ll bite – what does it hit?
When I was in high school, I didn’t have a lot of friends and had a severely unmet need for attention. When you figure out that the basic tactics for getting attention are too easily seen through but need to satisfy your narcissistic leanings, you start coming up with ridiculous strategies and coping mechanisms like this one. In your mind your really complicated scheme will definitely work, but in reality people just don’t care that much. It doesn’t help when you’re poorly socialized and narcissistic that you imagine everyone else to be dumber than you, so how could they not be tricked by your plan?

Okay, thanks, that works. I can see how some people would connect with the comic that way, and how it succeeds in capturing a mode of blinkered teenaged narcissism.
It was my nickname at school, actually. It’s just no one ever called me it despite the many times I let them beat me up.
