Traitors

I think that’s pretty different. If Fox News calls Obama a “traitor” then I guess that’s kind of a similar thing. But Fox News also deals in flat out falsehood a really noticeable portion of the time, and you can go a certain distance past which is becomes obvious you aren’t just expressing your strong feelings but actually trying to make a point you feel others should take literally and act on literally.

If I say my current prime minister is a sociopath then I’m being annoyed and hyperbolic (possibly right, but I don’t have good evidence). If I say that a certain one of my former prime ministers should be arrested for fraud and sued for at least $2M by the government, I’m presenting what I believe to be a fact (on that does, actually, drive me nuts, but even if I’m mad about it, it’s still true).

I guess the thing about Fox is it runs 24 hours through various media channels and has a variety of programming, some of which is presented as editorial and some of which is presented as news coverage, but all of which follows a clear political narrative. So some content would be comparable but much wouldn’t, and the scale of the operation and resources behind it make it a different proposition.

OK, good. I feel better about that.
