The Zionists say: “The Jews are not a race, so discrimination in favour of Jews is not racist”.

Are you asking me to prove a negative?

Any moderately educated Jews, whether Zionist or not, will tell you we aren’t a “race”. My synagogue has Afghani, Arab, North African, Ethiopian, Asian & European Jews.

So then what’s a little blood libel between friends?

I get that this is Trumps loud loud version of dog whistle-- but there are actual power elites within the financial sector(among others) who spend billions on preventing minimum wage hikes or in support of sovereignty defying Trade deals. This isn’t a shadowy cabal(except to he terms of the TPP) the most part. They can operate openly because of their power, and of useful idiots who compare any critique to the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Writing that off as “Trumps crazy” is as actively hurtful as writing legitimate criticism ofIsrael off as antisemitism.

Soros being a predatory individual has nothing to do with his ancestry, nor is he particular special in it, but we shouldn’t pretend he’s a good guy just because he supports pro-free trade centrist Dems over pro-free trade crazy Repubs.

Again-- the video is definitely red meat for skins-- but the most damaging parts of the Trump campaign is in its contamination of valid positions or views.

With zero interest in resolving them in a singular or bipartisan sense. In this context I agree.

They all would shit themselves and obstruct Sanders and Warren 24/7.

Let us know the last time the GOP did anything against bankers besides refer to the Protocols.

At this point the best we can hope from of any Admin is not starting a war with or weakening our position with Russia and stagnating, rather than shrinking the economy. Yay, failure state.

As noted in the original post, the Trump rally that grew into the advertisement had already attracted general odium for its coded antisemitism, and its fan-service to the neo-Nazi followers, by the time that Team Trump decided that the dog-whistles hit the right notes and that it would make a good advert. So they knew how it would be understood.

Note also just about every Jewish media figure in the country reporting an avalanche of Nazi-themed abuse in recent months. The recent collection of end-of-campaign-recap podcasts have included a lot of comments along the lines of “we usually don’t like to mention this stuff in our reporting, but holy shit there was a lot of it this time”.

The ones which you have twice asserted as true, yes.

In your case, it looks to me like you walk, quack and swim like a duck.

That stinks and not to make light of it but I’d rather get em online than in person. Somehow I find it easier to cope with online.

Damn, this sounds like a case to not have any public presence online. I know that sucks but then again, I kind of withdrew from lots of public forums a few years back anyway.

Respectfully, then why do you give quackpasses to an entire political party?

Respectfully, dont put words in my mouth.

They bothered to try to separate meddling from the innuendo, the American conservatives haven’t, what’s the difference that makes the latter ok and his post not? Because the difference is obvious to you but not others.

Threats are threats, whether delivered on-line or in person. If a harraser is angry enough, he can escalate from the former to the latter (here’s an example of someone who harrassed me along with many others doing just that). There will be a lot of angry people after Clinton wins, especially if her opponent does not concede graciously and instead continues claiming that the system is rigged by the media and international bankers.

Some people aren’t interested in retreating into insular bubbles and would prefer to have a public presence on-line. Journalists’ jobs often require it. Those who choose retreat should be aware that bigots seldom respect that choice (on-line or, eventually, in person) once they gain enough power and legitimacy in society.

It does no-one any good to pretend that this campaign hasn’t reached out to white nationalists, the alt-right crowd, and other assorted bigots to bolster its voter base. It also doesn’t do anyone any good to pretend that those forces will vanish from the GOP now that they’ve been allowed in by the cowards and opportunists in the party establishment.

Years ago I got stalked online for mocking Ayn Rand (go figure) and it seemed like forever before the sad fool found a new target for his obsessive rage and left me alone. Annoying as hell.

The worst, though, is anonymous meatspace threats to your children… I bought a high caliber handgun and a couple clips of specialty ammo. From my friend who is the son of a Jewish arms dealer, actually, although this is the first time I’ve thought about that context. The father’s got a pistol range in the basement of his suburban tract house so I got in a few practice sessions without the spouse knowing.

Luckily those threats were probably just teenagers being purposely offensive - or at least that’s my theory, since they never came to anything. But it was extremely nerve-racking at the time.

Once again, you can GS is a corrupt company. This is not what Trumps people are doing. They are calling out specific Jewish individuals as especially corrupt. Again, this has been dog whistles used for a very long time. It’s not talking about GS that is antisemitic, it’s calling out specific individuals who are Jewish and are seen as “controlling” international finance that’s the antisemitic part.

Who is fucking doing that? No one. We made a deal with Iran that sopped them from getting nukes and gave them back $$$ that was actually theres.

We are not watching the same election, apparently. [quote=“Max_Blancke, post:124, topic:88859”]
I hope that we can go back to talking about more pleasant subjects very soon.

We can finally agree.

I speak for myself. As an actual Jew, one of two (possibly three) in this thread. I dont know who you or anyone else thinks they are speaking for.

Having been on the receiving end of both kinds I’m well aware.

Maybe so, but the thing is compared to the trouble Jews get in real life, compared to the blood spilled and lives lost because we are who we are, the problems long predate The Donald and will be there when he is a footnote in the history books (unless of course the Messiah arrives before then)

The problems I’ve had, the problems @bibliophile20 has had, at least we havent been stabbed, shot or killed like our brothers and sisters in France these last few years. Or subject to suicide bombings as we do about our shopping, etc.

Having been online in one form or another since the early 80s I’m aware of what you say. The reasons I’ve minimized my online presence to a few places only go beyond the bullies. In real life I’m visibly Jewish as well and I dress the part with tzitzit out and my head always covered. People think that gives them the right to talk crap or threaten me but it doesnt stop me. The bigots were there before, they are there today and they will be there tomorrow.

You have my full sympathy there. My wife and I didnt have kids unfortunately so I cant know how that feels but still.

I received a threat in person regarding my wife recently which kind of made me want to do as you did but that is not an option where I live.

But we are an ethnicity, as shown by genetic studies. We (the various subgroups) are more closely related to each other than we are to the “host” populations, which has confused more than a few racists that I’ve met.

Well, it definitely is an improvement over the time I got beaten when I was a teen. I just have nightmares and insomnia instead of bandages, and jump at every unexplained noise by my door, and have moved three times in the last year and a half.

This sounds exactly like the sort of advice I got from my rabbi when I was growing up–to be in the world, but not of it. My response has always been the same for the last twenty years–that we can exist in the world, but we cannot fence it out by retreating to self-made ghettos and hiding behind Gemaras. Better to have our voices heard than to be the mysterious Other whose motivations and actions are unknown and therefore sinister to the suspicious and hateful. This is not a circumstance where middah kinegged middah (lit: measure for measure) applies; if we leave them alone, they will not leave us alone.
