Does anyone else have the distinct suspicion that Dear Leader is having one of his dreamquests into a dystopian early to mid '80s; that one where Japan was still the center of ‘digital’ and busy scaring competitors enough to ensure that basically all the neon cyberpunk megacities would be at least partially neo-Tokyo up to the present day? Back before things took a bit of a turn, China started to pivot from mid farming, and Korea got serious?
(None of this is to say that Japan isn’t a major high tech manufacturing economy, they are; but talking about them like you’ve just discovered that Japanese microelectronics are going to be a major factor in future social shifts is just so eternal-'80s it hurts.)
