The goon part is irrelevant. He wasn’t kissing Trump’s ass enough. Which is why Trump wanted to fire him, but Bolton was enough of a goon that Trump was too scared to fire him, and instead was passive-aggressive.
It cannot be repeated enough: Trump is like most bullies, a coward. He cannot actually fire anybody, which is why making it his trademark on television is so ironic. He can only pretend to fire people.
