Honestly that article was a nothingberder - what’s more surprising is how often those planes are actually in flight. Perhaps other countries might risk a nuclear war if the POTUS were ill, but the likelihood seems exceedingly remote. I wouldn’t read too much into it.
I agree but still newsworthy.
Protocol will be under the microscope over the next few days.
Agreed. We all know that Trump has the bestest succession plan.
Dripping sarcasm of “thoughts and prayers…”
I expect a statement from Dr Scott Atlas of the Hoover “Kill Grandma!” Institution soon.
“The White House shouldn’t quarantine or take precautions. Instead, people in high-risk categories should be protected, and the rest should be infected as fast as possible to build herd mentality. We can’t use actual medical science, because the cure is worse than the disease!”
I’d agree that having the nuclear submarine command and control infrastructure pop up to say “We are ready and waiting, just in case anyone was wondering…” does not seem like a good thing; but I’m honestly a little surprised about the whole thing just because I can’t wrap my mind around the idea that anyone would still think that the readiness of American nuclear assets is meaningfully connected to Donald Trump’s health(with the exception of the, sadly more distinct than is comfortable, possibility that odds of use are higher and potential targets more erratic when he is up and about); especially in a case where we have advance notice.
All the various continuity-of-government line of succession lists and relatively decentralized second-strike authorization stuff (both the policy background and the technical implementation) are Cold War stuff, so anyone expecting a “haha, the president is intubated, America is immobile!” situation is decades behind the times; and we know that COVID generally takes some time(not a huge amount, and not perfectly predictable; but plenty to sign a bunch of “in case I’m unavailable” directives, probably already made up and ready for use) to go from being detectable by antibody or PCR tests to having any serious impact on the patient’s health.
If his luck doesn’t hold a positive COVID test could mean that El Presidente is a dead man walking as we speak; but even with the most aggressive course of the disease we are talking days of (what passes for) normal function in which to rubber stamp any contingencies that the big collection of automatic contingencies don’t already address.
Which is ironically about the accuracy of the rapid spit test. But, given the numbers of positive cases in the White House, I actually think it is probably accurate.
Note to self: avoid the hamburger buffet at the White House
I hope hes on a ventilator for the rest of his life, loses the election, then gets thrown in jail after a multitude of lawsuits financially ruined for the rest of his life and the rest of his offspring’s life.
I don’t fucking care if he eats it. I think we all know he’s probably going to be fine because he’s going to get the ridiculous level of healthcare that normal people can’t even approach, all of us are going to be paying for it, and then he’s going to use it as an excuse to skip the debates and come out talking about how it’s really not that bad.
Trust me whatever the outcome of this it’s only going to get worse, but I’m going to drink in celebration that he finally got it
TBH, I’m just as worried about that guy’s contingency plan than anything the administration has going on.
I still maintain he didn’t really want the job. Running was all great fun, and a way to thumb his nose at a bunch of folks he never really liked. This would allow him to quit, save face, and blame a whole lot of other people for his departure.
The only fly in the ointment is the pending legal action against him. If he stays, he’ll really have to play the victim with his base, and continue claiming that everything is rigged against him. He could flee, and use his claims of unfairness as his reason for doing so. His followers could still keep in touch (and increase in number) online.
Nor the 6 or 7 other bits of news just yesterday about Republican perfidy and nastiness.
@RandomDude Boris Johnson had access to an equivalent level of healthcare and from what I can tell things were not a walk in the park.
This is:
- a lie to get sympathy and look like a superman when he “recovers.”
- a way to distract from McMaster’s revelations about Russian influence
- a distraction from other impending defections/revelations
- a way to get out of the next two (no-doubt disastrous) debates
If Trump bails from the two scheduled debates, Biden needs to go ahead and use that time to have a town hall anyway, and perhaps a policy roundtable discussion with some Dem luminaries to outline positive things they hope to accomplish. It’s actually a great opportunity for him.
From that linked Washington Post article - he is blaming the military and law enforcement:
Trump also suggested Hicks could have contracted it from members of the military or law enforcement.
“It is very, very hard when you are with people from the military, or from law enforcement, and they come over to you, and they want to hug you, and they want to kiss you because we really have done a good job for them,” the president said. “You get close, and things happen. I was surprised to hear with Hope, but she is a very warm person with them. She knows there’s a risk, but she is young.”
They are all chumps and losers, right? Of course it’s their fault.
Pretty sure Herman Cain could afford that level of care. . .
There has been speculation that de Pfeffel has long term health problems because of his illness, and will resign in the new year once he has seen that Brexit has happened (before the shit hits the fan in other words).
It’s the world’s worst game of pass the parcel.
That was my thought during that spectacle on the White House lawn during the GOP convention.
He lost his sense of taste long ago.
