Yeah, the elephant in the room with Turmp is just how stupid he is. Sure, we’re always hearing outrageously stupid soundbites, but if that’s all you hear (and who can bear to listen to him at length), it gives the impression these are extraordinary examples, and implies his baseline must be vaguely normal.
But no. If you force yourself to listen to anything he says, in any setting, the number one thing you will notice is that he is unusually stupid, relative to regular people in the street. And we’re just powerless to cope with that.
Just to be clear, I don’t think Turmp has a learning disability, or that it is OK to stigmatise learning disabilities. I think, through a combination of privilege and character shittiness, he has just lived his life without ever putting any gas in the tank. And I don’t think it’s wrong to call someone out for being too stupid to discharge their moral obligations when they chose those obligations, and chose not to develop themselves mentally.
Serious Responsible Journalists want to avoid ad hominem attacks (and it flatters their intelligence to magnanimously ignore others’ stupidity), but with Turmp it’s almost impossible to address anything he says or does without it being an ad hominem attack, since the nub of the problem is that the hominem in question is confused by the struggle to wipe his own butt, and everyone’s pretending his thoughts on diplomacy and economic policy merit serious consideration.

Agreed. It would be a mistake to try to counter his “talking points” with reason and logic, because there is none to be had. His utterances are so remarkably without thought that the only thing left is to just call them what they are - the idiotic ramblings of an impeached, racist degenerate.
