If John W Campbell can be erased, surely a rich guy now playing a US president should see a demand that he be erased from a Christmas movie.
Translation: the evangelical leaders are afraid of Trump stealing their power over the flock. They can float along with a lot of shady things, but losing the reins is not allowed. And Trump’s cult is increasingly becoming its own religion.

I’m sure it’s not lost on them that Trump removed from power means Pence becomes POTUS, but even so it’s nice to see them acknowledge Trump’s staggering hypocrisy, even if it is a day late and a dollar short.

Given how good repubs are at rigging elections, this is a recurring fear of mine. I don’t think pence as a presidential candidate has a chance vote wise, but then, Republican candidates don’t need to win the popular vote.

agrees to witnesses - white house staff reveal damning info, acquittal looks even worse

sits it out hoping House folds - courts process cases, force white house staff to testify, trumps tax returns to come out showing his obligations to russians.
The GOP will come up with some preposterous story about this delay and flog it death. Coming up.

its not likely, but this is about applying pressure and forcing the GOP into a sub-optimal path by threatening much worse paths.
Honestly we just need enough that trump looses in Nov, and tarnishes enough senators that they loose the senate. Removing trump really does not matter.

The pundits are already saying that the Democrats just want to drag this out indefinitely. If that were true, they would still be in the investigation phase. But whatever.
We all know that unless many Republicans actually achieve a conscious, that this whole thing will lead to nought.
Get out to vote in 2020, even if its Biden.

I’m not sure that I am missing the point of the sentence I was replying to. How does any of that spell a better fate for America? The rot runs far deeper than the figurehead on the throne.
• Even if GOP senators “catch shade” their fucking voters will still vote them in, because to do otherwise is surrender to the “commie socialist lib’ruls.”
• There’s been three years of “damning info” and the base doesn’t care, or believes the lies that the emperor is fully clothed; and again – even if he is ousted – the machine that put him there isn’t dismantled by his leaving. It’s just swapping out which dildo is on the ramming rod.
• At this point I feel like “tax returns” are Trump’s version of the hunt for Obama’s birth certificate; a fucking distraction. Any money he’s received from the Russians doubtlessly passed through enough shell corporations that it will take longer than he has left in office to untangle. And even if it is untangled, he can claim to believe it was honestly from the people it appeared to be. He’s either really good at playing dumb when it suits him, or he is dumb. Unless he added notations like, “Big thank you from Vlad,” his tax returns won’t hurt him. Add to that, who claims payola on a tax return? I feel like he doesn’t want them shown because he’s really not worth as much as he claims. For him it’s about face. Finally, once again, if he’s kicked out or thrown into prison because of this, we are still fucked by the rest of the machine.
I feel like a huge thing that could hurt us in the 2020 election is for justice to apparently be served to this clown, and the appearance of the return to normality. If people assume everything is getting better, too many of them will resume their complacency and not come out in 2020 to vote.
And that’s provided we can overcome the voter machine fraud and gerrymandering in order to take back our democracy. I will be so happy if we can, but I’ll be shocked as hell at the same time. Once the wrong grasping hands have seized power, their fingers aren’t going to just relax.
Between the two parties, we’ve been shown again and again that the only one that cares even a little bit about rules anymore is the Democratic Party. The GOP will bend, break, or ignore any rule that doesn’t shore up their position. They will froth up their base and then look away as the base does the horrible things it does. And their base will look away from the breaking of rules because it means they get to keep winning.
