No, he always was. He just wasn’t sucking up to that particular fascist.

C’mon JD, isn’t there a book you care about that talks about the perils of serving god and mammon? Maybe Genghis Don will let you look it up in one of his top quality “God Bless the USA” Bibles (made in China, of course)

You gotta wonder what blackmail intel they have on him to make the guy do a 180 like this.

Blackmail may not have anything to do with it. Thiel helped him get rich, and now he and his techbro buddies fed Vance’s insatiable ambition by securing him a slot on the 2024 Republican ticket (and perhaps the top slot on the 2028 one). Someone as shameless as Vance has no problem deflecting from the fact that he made this and similar statements in the past.

No, I think Vance is expecting to become President very soon after the 2024 election. The Nationalist Christians (NatCs) that he embraces will help form Trump’s cabinet if he’s elected. Then they’ll find him incompetent to serve and elevate the Vice-President. Trump’s been moaning about the coup against Biden because he’s realized it will likely happen to him. It’s all projection with him, after all…

Why do people keep imagining Republicans would need blackmail to abandon their principles, versus only pretending to have them in the first place? It assumes a lot of facts not in evidence. I feel pretty confident saying Vance never actually cared about immigrants and Muslims, they only sounded like a convenient cudgel at the time.

Watched the Frontline VP episode the other day. Maybe I’m biased but they totally whitewashed Vance’s ever-shifting morals and policy flip-flops over the years going from NeverTrumper to card-carrying MAGA leader without any hint of irony or introspection.

The guy has always been a scumbag leveraging his supposed “modest” upbringing in Appalachia hawking his ridiculous book (the guy went to fucking Yale for god’s sake - and they even portrayed him as a misunderstood outsider there) to serving a whole 6 months in Iraq which qualifies him as some kind of right wing veteran spokesperson.

It’s pretty obvious once you strip away the veneer of respectability and intelligence the media gives him that he’s nothing more than your run of the mill Republican opportunist riding the MAGA wave and kissing the Trump ring for a chance at power.

Yeah. I’d be entirely unsurprised if it turned out that Trump (or more likely his stooges) was blackmailing Lindsey Graham, threatening to out him as gay.

But I’d be very surprised if there was any kind of blackmail behind Vance’s flip to supporting Trump. He’s a venal piece of scum who ultimately only cares for money and power.

Thank you! I’ve been wondering, very frustratedly, the same exact thing but hadn’t ever put it so concisely. The whole “blackmail” hypothesis is just giving these shitheads an excuse, like, “they’d surely do the right thing, but they’re being forced to be evil, against their will, poor things.

i have been saying this to anyone who will listen.
Vance and his backers willl call for enacting the 25th amendment on ■■■■■ within the first 6 months of his term. the cabinet will back it all they way and, “hello, president vance.”
::shudder::

With a side bet on the short cut that Trump doesn’t make it to January 20th.

This is what I find so weird about Vance. Why was staying Republican more important than his once held beliefs? Wouldn’t it have been easier to just switch parties?

None, I bet. He cares more about power than he does about having a moral center. He saw an opportunity to find himself in a more powerful position in society, and he took it.

See Jon Ossoff GIF by Election 2020

There are no real core of his beliefs, except power and enriching himself. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise.

Could be though that Trump would welcome the opportunity. Being president is a hassle after all, and this would be a great out, like, “I can’t stand trial- they said i wasn’t fit to be prez! Oh well, time to play golf!”

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. It’s not just the chance at the presidency, it’s the chance of being the successor to the first American dictator.

So what was the lie? Vance has people he cares about or he finds Hair Furor reprehensible?

Vance is as much of a junkie as his mother ever was. Different drug though. Too bad his junk isn’t as sure to lead to an overdose.

We all know someone who used to be ok, then they got promoted and the power went to their head.

Vance is like that, except there’s no proof he used to be ok.

That creep and its master aren’t immoral, they’re amoral, as are all those other creatures who’ve hopped and slithered and slimily insinuated themselves onto the fash bandwagon. Not a single redeeming quality among the lot.
